Storm force.. by maggiemae

Storm force..

...driving up to Christchurch on the verge of the "Worst Storm since 1975", I shot this scene as the hugely dark clouds came in from the east. The wind was deafening and hail thundered down later!

More dramatic enlarged.

Three good things:
1. We arrived at our destination before the wind got bad.
2. We got some sleep this night but there were fears the roof would blow off!
3. Exciting! I love wild weather!
Cool shot

@yonnie Funny, Yvonne, no lightening or thunder just very gusty winds and hail! Stayed inside as long as we could, - just a brief weather bomb, not like your cold temps!

@megmills It was a bit unnerving driving as trees were coming down taking power lines with them, Meg!

looks like the darkest hour.

March 5th, 2014
@prttblues thanks Bev! It had just enough light reflectin from a lighter part of the black cloud to see this!
March 5th, 2014
@tristansmum this was taken from a car and I wasn't out there long! Thanks Stephanie!
March 5th, 2014

March 5th, 2014
@kiwichick - I just darkened the dark sky a bit more and hoped it would still have a bit of form left in it, Lesley! Thanks for your good thoughts!

March 5th, 2014
@pitasmum Glad you saw this as drama, Keri! It was rather nervewracking not knowing what was going to happen... and it did - floods, trees down, power out!
March 5th, 2014
@maggiemae Mmm..my daughter is flying up to Palmerston
North from Christchurch on Friday for a wedding and is worried more flights might be canceled like yesterday.
March 5th, 2014
@pitasmum Apparently all flights are a gogo now, Keri and the winds have died down! I presume you mean Palmerston NORTH? It is very particular!
March 5th, 2014
