On the downward slope home there is less than 2 weeks left! Took the coastal route down from Russell and admired the numerous hidden bays amidst rocky cliffs and bush clad mountains. On a high slope this cafe and art gallery was built with a German influence. I must admit there was a lot of German language heard here and the menu was distinctly German influenced - sausages, beer, apple strudel etc. High above the carpark on a tree stump this sculpture perched forever!
Three good things:
1. Germans are not good at muffins but great coffee was served.
2. I can’t even remember where I spent last night!
3. Lunch at a marina in Whangarei on a sunny Sunday. Mussel fritters. A lady was performing with hula hoops and she was so clever!
Interesting sculpture, and I love mussel fritters!! Are you starting to miss home as you are heading back and your own bed beckons, or will you be missing this trip?! It certainly has been an adventure, and I am glad you brought us along on it!
I find for German food you've to be in Germany. when we're about, we always see if there're German restaurants and most the time, we're disappointed with the food. not truly German.
