Clouds On The Way To Reno

Can anyone tell me how to avoid the extra effects when shooting shots like this one? Is it okay or is it better avoided? The clouds were amazing and the sky so blue ... but thats the high desert for you.

I used to hate the flare and even asked my followers the same thing a while back but I've learned to appreciate it sometimes. It can be very beautiful and I think, in this instance, it is beautiful.

If you point your camera directly at the sun, you'll get flare.

I'm not sure what a polarizing filter would do to this, but that might be something to investigate.

I'm this picture, the flare is perfect and makes a majestic impression, but I know what you mean, sometimes you just don't want it there.
