The word "widdershins" is well known to the modern American pagan/neopagan community, of which I have some familiarity -- "widdershins" meaning counter-clockwise and "deosil" or clockwise/sunwise being the direction generally taken. I fear there's more concept/joke in this than photographic art, but I've wanted to do it in some way, shape, or form for a long time. The idea has occurred to me a number of times while mowing, so...Thanks for the excuse!
PS I have to learn how to properly set up and take a picture of myself. Invest in a tripod, probably, for starters. In the meantime, Thanks, Frank, for modeling for me.
If I get your drift I love it. At any one point in time there are 3 people mowing their lawns within earshot of my house. These people worship their lawns and would like to banish me their neighbor who loves dandelions and is trying to turn my yard into native Iowa prairie
@omabluebird Hee hee...Up with dandelions! I've added a bit more explanation to the photo, as I realized that others may not know for sure what meaning of widdershins I'm going for.
So we need to mow in a "widdershins" fashion, to be in line with the pagan gods, then? LOL Interesting interpretation of the word. Mine was a bit more "dull" but what the heck...Widdershins is in the eye of the beholder. And Frank is very cooperative!
I will not give up my idea that worshiping your lawn is a religion and therefore mowing is a pagan ritual. Thanks for putting the idea in my head. This is fun
@espyetta@omabluebird LOL I had not thought of it in these terms. Your interpretations are so colorful. Love it. Truly widdershins is in the eye of the beholder. Whoever suggested the creative use of the word in various contexts is a genius. It is a delicious word and deserves to be used more often and more creatively.
On another note: Last night I was trying to finish the mowing that Frank had not had time to finish before we went to the BBQ. What I'd really like to banish -- more than the grass -- is the !@*%, widdershins, son of a !@% moles. The yard is like a plowed field. It makes it so difficult to mow. I am praying to whatever gods will hear me that once a construction crew starts to dig, and run back and forth with machinery to build the addition we've planned onto our house (soon, I hope) the moles will pack up and leave for good. To cover all bases, I think I'll light a candle at church.
