Little by little, I'm managing to fill in the dates I missed while I was away in Wisconsin. On Sunday, as I was driving back, I stopped (as I usually do) at the Holy Ghost Parish in Dickeyville, WI. They have a parish rummage sale on the 4th of July weekend that is still going on as I drive through. (I know, I know...I don't need more STUFF. But this year I found a nice rubber toy octopus. You can't pass that up, can you?
The Holy Ghost parish has a wonderful grotto built by Father Matthias Wernerus, Pastor of the Parish from 1918 to 1931, that I have paid to go in and tour once. Here's the URL for the web site:

Quoting from that site:
"It is a creation in stone, mortar and bright colored objects-collected materials from all over the world. These include colored glass, gems, antique heirlooms of pottery or porcelain, stalagmites and stalactites, sea shells, starfish, petrified sea urchins and fossils, and a variety of corals, amber glass, agate, quartz, ores, such as iron, copper and lead, fool's gold, rock crystals, onyx, amethyst and coal, petrified wood and moss."
It isn't open on Sunday, but there is part of it that is not closed off and I took advantage of the opportunity to take out my camera and try to capture some of the fantastic abundance of photo opportunities. I plan to post a couple of other shots in my alternates album when I have the time.
This is a nativity scene behind glass. The glass is reflecting the stone walls and walkway. I liked the way it looked. I took another from the opposite end, nearer St. Joseph, and was going to put that one up, but upon closer inspection realized that my arm and camera were included in the reflection. Once I realized what that darker area was, it bothered me enough to switch to this one.
Overland Park...hmmm... My son lives in Olathe, the next suburb south of that. I'll have to think. We live in Manhattan, a couple of hours drive west and when we come to the KC area we are either headed to a meeting or other event of either the Cornish or Welsh societies that we belong to, or we are visiting our son (or picking him up to bring him here for a visit.) I definitely know where the movie theater is -- right across the fence from his apartment . There's one thing in KC that I still haven't seen that everyone says is wonderful, and one day will get there to see -- the Steamboat Arabia museum. The Arabia sank in the Missouri River in 1856 and when it was discovered and dug up 132 years later with a lot of its cargo preserved -- tons of everyday goods that it was hauling for sale on the frontier -- a great glimpse into frontier life back then. I'm told you should plan to spend a good deal of time as there is so much to see. Here is the URL for the museum web site: http://www.1856.com/
If I think of anything else -- especially if it's something I personally have already seen/done/experienced, I'll let you know.
PS I love the variety of great photos in your album. Gonna follow you now.
