Glass shelves by mcsiegle

Glass shelves

For last week's get pushed challenge (yes, I'm still a week behind) Martine @3sixty5 challenged me to "make a diptych that shows us that particular part of your renovated house on which you are most proud. It must contain one macro." Here is a look at the as-yet-uninstalled glass shelves that will fit into the three central windows in the bayed west wall of our new music room. It was my idea to make that wall thick enough to accommodate shelves that can hold the beautiful glass pieces given to me by my mother (and many of them from her aunt) and inherited from Frank's mother.

we used to have what I have heard referred to as a "greenhouse window" in the west wall of the dining room - now no window and less wall -- it leads to the music room. That greenhouse window construction jutted out, awkwardly supported outside by ugly props and had started to rot so we got rid of it finally. But while we had it, it was a great place for my glass. I didn't want to lose that element. When the shelves are in place and the glass is displayed, I'll take more photos. In the meantime, because I am so horribly behind in posting photos, I took some closer pictures of the pieces I put on the wide windowsill to enhance the look of this piece. I've played with cropping them and posted the variations on the next three days.

Update: the shelves are in and I've posted a couple of photos that show them with the glass pieces displayed:
