Like stonewashed batik...

When April @aecasey, my get pushed partner, said "I remember you were using your iPod. I see you now have a Coolpix. For this week I'd like you to try and get a silhouette with the Coolpix." I'm sure this is not what she envisioned -- nor did I. But while Dan was running into MaDonald's to buy himself cheeseburgers and fries, I waited outside. But I didn't stay in the car. I went over to the intersection and looked west down the street where the sun was setting. It was not a very scenic view, but I played with the settings, trying to remember what the tutorial she had pointed me to had said. (Well, first, I did try out the "sunset" scene setting -- very unsatisfactory!) This is cropped from the most silhouette-like of the bunch. I like the way it looks, but I'm pretty sure April didn't intend that I give her an abstract!
@aecasey -- well...it WAS taken with the Coolpix.

All four are wonderful, regardless of camera used!

This is cool! I love abstracts. I'm sorry the Coolpix proved to be frustrating. Nicely done though.

@aecasey The camera itself wasn't frustrating. to a great extent I'm in a learning mode still, but didn't have much time to fiddle with settings, because Dan would be back out with his burger and fries in a few minutes. I'm definitely going to go back out some evening or early morning with the camera. The main thing I love about this camera is that it allows me to use a manual mode, where I have to figure out the settings on my own. I can't manually focus, but I don't have the money to lay out for a DSLR right now. The S9900 is a nice little camera. (bigger than the last, but still can put it in my purse and carry around.)
