New York City December 2017

My get pushed partner, Miseria @miseria gave me this challenge -- "take a photo with a theme based off your favorite moment of 2017."

I've failed miserably here, as this is clearly not my favorite MOMENT, but a collection of moments from the recent trip Frank and I made to New York City. I'd say that trip, taken as a whole, was the highlight of 2017 for me. I decided to do a flat lay shot. This is not very artfully arranged, I'm afraid.

The most exciting piece on there is at the top in the middle. It's my grandmother's school record that I ordered and picked up from the Juilliard School from the time she studied at the Institute of Musical Art -- the forerunner of the Juilliard. The upper left is a promotional piece for the Manhattan School of Music, which currently occupies the building -- given to me by Stephen Jacobsohn, who gave me a tour through the old part of the building. In the evening we heard a vocal recital of some of their students, singing in the same concert hall my grandmother would have known.

Maps of New York in the lower and upper right -- the upper one folds into a size that goes into a wallet. It shows the basic transit routes, subway on one side and buses on the other. We had transit adventures and misadventures. My seven-day unlimited ride Metro card is on there also.

I spent a little time at the Library and still had the card from last year (though a staff person had to renew it because it was just a temporary one). My iPod is showing the Tenement Museum logo (because I think I discarded the ticket). That was really a neat tour.

Besides a receipt from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, there's also a program from the winter solstice celebration concert at Symphony Space, annual event for the Irish Arts Center, and the receipt for same. After we got settled into our seats, with the assistance of the usher, another couple arrived and it appeared they also had bought those seats (accidentally sold twice?) The usher told them she had seen our tickets and we were where we should be, but while I searched in my purse and pockets for where I had put them, to be sure we were in the right place, the other woman said "That woman doesn't even have tickets -- she can't find any tickets!" What??? Was I being accused of sneaking in without having bought tickets? I eventually found them after the woman's husband went off with the usher to straighten it out and find other seats for them. Man, I was a little bit peeved. Frank said forget it, and eventually I did (until now, of course) It was a great concert.

The highlight of the trip and reason we went was the memorial celebration of the life of our friend, Amy Rea. I included the brief program, and a pen left over from Amy's work with a realty company. The pens have her picture on it and the company obviously doesn't have a use for them now, so her sister and brother had a box of them they were handing out at the end of the evening. When I got up to speak during that portion of the event, I showed a couple examples of Amy's quirky letters she sent during the seventies. On the far right is one that was written on one half of a paper napkin.

And finally, in the center is one of two boxes of chocolates that Frank went off and bought while I was at the library, and gave me for Christmas. I've finished off the other box. :-)
@miseria It's not a MOMENT, but it does represent the highlight of 2017 for me.
