As a photo it's nothing to write home about but I wanted to mark the day. In the face of the huge outbreaks of Omicron in the rest of Australia, I've been dreading that our Western Australian borders were set to open on 5th February.
Today our Premier announced the decision to delay that opening in order to protect our population. Our 5-11 year olds became eligible for vaccination on 10th January. This will provide more time for them too get their vaccinations and also for people to get their booster.
We're already triple vaxxed but our grandies have just had their first jab.
There will be people who will be vehemently opposed to this decision as they cite lack of freedom and "state control" but I'm very grateful.
Absolutely every reason to celebrate. I think Australia got it right (I was so pleased that Djokovic wasn’t allowed in in the end) and the UK government got it all completely wrong from the very beginning. 5-11 year olds aren’t being offered the vaccine yet. All seven of my grandchildren have had covid, only one, Charlotte, has been able to get the vaccine. Emily, at 15, is old enough but she caught covid and now has to wait however long it is before she can be vaccinated.
@susiemc I'm really happy with the way that our Premier has handled the entire situation Sue. Limiting the number of people coming into WA has kept Covid under control. I wasn't aware that your 5-11s weren't yet being offered vaccination.
I also think you have reason to celebrate! People's safety and health should be the most important thing, in my view, and it looks as if your government is doing things well.
Great... Here in Queensland we have 1000's per day coming down. Very frightening so we don't really go anywhere at the moment. I have my booster shot on Monday.
Your borders being closed makes no difference to me as I have no need to visit and I understand why your Premier has made the decision but I do feel sorry for people who haven't seen their WA relatives for so long and I have a feeling that Covid is not going away and that it will sweep through WA whenever the borders open although I hope I'm wrong.
