Midsommer pole by mjmaven

Midsommer pole

This is the top 1/3 of the pole which stands about 20 - 25 ft. high and is the focal point of the Midsommer Festival.......the annual Swedish festival to celebrate summer solstice. There was traditional folk dancing around the pole as well as dancing Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, traditional music, lots of great food and fun with family and friends.
The capture is beautiful and I'm familiar with the tradition. Are you in Sweden now?

@anazad511 ......Ana, we were in New Sweden, Maine for the celebration over the weekend. My dad & his side of my family came from New Sweden. Both of my grandfathers are from Sweden so we try to go to Midsommer often. I learned from a visitor from Sweden that the Midsommer Festival is one of the most important holidays in Sweden......comparable to our Juty 4th.

@mjmaven Oh yes, it's a very big celebration in Sweden. I was there once many moons ago and it was fantastic, plus my Swedish friends always send me pictures of their celebration. People in Sweden are very attached to their traditions.
