Actually, I'm not the type who likes to take challenges. Since the topic is very appealing to me, I try to jump over my shadow and here is my attempt. This rolling pin and the pot for barley are two of a series kitchen utensils that came from my husbands grandmother, possibly even from his great-grandmother. There are no real faïences from Faenza, Italy, but I think for the F-word challenge they can pass. Until two years ago, they were still in use, then the beloved aunt the last relative living in the old family house, died. Since then they are in our possession and I love them very much as decoration pieces with family background and they bring back lovely memories of the persons, who have used them often. Normally I do not use them in the kitchen, today is an exception. I worry always that I will break them to pieces.
The word Gerste caught my eye. it sounds more German than Italian to me. nonetheless the utensils are absolutely beautiful and great to have on display.
@bruni Yes, you are right, Gerste ist German für barley. With Faenza, Italy I refer to the origin of the art, or the kind of glaze and paint of the pottery. What is theme of the F-word challenge: faience this week.
@jwlynn64 Of course you are right. It is not really a set up. I had the idea while cooking, preparing a dough (still on they way) and just simly set it up. There is only the kitchen lightning, shot out of hand and no flash used. Therefore more photoshop prcessing.
@ingrid_marianna Thank you, my dear, but you would better not bet on the results of my experiments in Mona's hells-kitchen. ;-) You could lose your money! But yesterday, everything was good.
There is so much I like about this. Your composition is wonderful and I really like the reflection. I really connected with your narrative. I enjoyed reading about your connection to the pieces. I have some things that were passed down to me that I feel the same way about.
