A Western or European Honey Bee (Apis mellifera) on a wood anemone (Anemone nemorosa). Nice to see, that the bee had already collected some pollen, which are stored in the pollen basket on the hind legs, until the bee flies back to the beehive. The beautiful wood anemones are pollinated by different insects, often by hoverflies. But they are able to perform a self pollination. This happens when the flower is closing at night or in humid weather, and the stamens and the sticky stigma of the carpel contact each other.
@rob257 Thanks Rob. I'm really amazed by your work and this close encounters you have, when you are paddeling with your kayak. I'm too looking forward, for whatever you will post in future. Thanks for the follow.
