2015-05-07 rose chafer

The rose chafer (goldglänzender Rosenkäfer / Cetonia aurata) – is thanks to its metallic green, bronze or/and golden shiny wing covers, which are decorated with white speckles,
one of the most striking and most beautiful beetles we have in Switzerland. It feeds the stamens and pollen from different flowers and native shrubs. Found this beautiful imago, on my lunch break walk.

Ok, I have to admit: I like all the critters, even if they are normally considered as creepy and ugly. But isn’t this a beauty?
Yep, it's a beauty! As long as it's not in my house. =) Love the metallic color you were able to capture!

Lovely macro, with beautifully coordinated colours and great light, fav. This a magnificent insect. Reminds me a bit of the Japanese beetle, which is lovely to look at but does a great deal of damage to plants.

@tristansmum Dear Stephanie, thanks for the comment and fav. You are right, the Japanese beetle belongs to the same family (Scarabaeidae). But the larva of the rose chafer is only rarely harmful to plants and it even belongs to the group of endangered species.

I agree this is a beautiful bug. I love the white patches on the shiny green. They sort of match the flower and leaves.
