Interesting for me: there was a long issue and nomenclature debate (for centuries) about the correct name of this plant, we usually call Amaryllis. The key question is whether the original and first described type was a South African plant (now Amaryllis) or a South American plant (now Hippeastrum). In 1987 a decision settled the question of the scientific name of the genus as Hippeastrum. But the common name "Amaryllis" continues to be used. However bulbs sold as Amaryllis and described as ready to bloom for the holidays, belong botanically to the Hippeastrum type.
But if you ask me, it does not matter, it is so and so a beautiful plant.
Such lovely details and dreamy feel to this picture. Do you think it might look better as a square frame, with more space/flower on the top? This would put the focus area into the one of the "rule of thirds" spots. Just an idea.
@vera365 Of course you're right Vera, thanks for the tip. I was not happy with this picture, and I distracted myself with a botanical narrative. Today is not my day ... I'm not inspired, the joy I normally have taking pictures was missing ...
I uploaded in my other album a picture, and tried to implement your tip. Thank you kindly. It is really a better that way, but maybe I should start all over. http://365project.org/mona65/2015-plan-b-alb/2015-12-15
I love the light and shadow and pov and processing in this Mona, fav for me. I think I have read about the name controversy. I keep calling it amaryllis just because it's such a pretty name
I find it fascinating in both version of this picture that it's almost impossible to keep your eyes anywhere except the sharp focus spot. They just move back to that spot on their own.
It is one of my favorite plants, too, and yes, they are forced to bloom around the holidays. However, that is not their natural cycle, and when I plant the bulbs in the garden after they are spent they tend to flower in their normal season, which is usually around April. Never seen it photographed in white, and it makes a beautiful abstract!
