2017-10-09 everything is better in good company...
I was so glad my hubby M. came along on this journey through millions of years… and through the Bletterbach gorge. The gorge is at some places 400 meters deep, 8 km long and very narrow. Most of the time we hiked in the riverbed, but to detour the waterfalls you climb up all the gorge, only to go go down again. For safety reasons you can hike this place only in dry weather, and good we brought our helmets, as they are obligatory to enter the gorge. This UNESCO World Heritage site provides insight into the inner part of the mountains, the Dolomites, into the world of rocks and in geological history. It is a difficult place for photography (at least for me), but extremly interesting geology wise.
how fascinating! i'm with @vera365 - i want to come visit... couldn't afford to be away from my job for a year, but how would you feel about hosting a 365 jamboree? :D
@vera365 Hi Vera, well great idea, the boys would have loved it. Lot’s of little fossils (nothing as clear as from Ohmden though), dinosaur tracks, etc. But this is in Südtirol, Italy, 5 hour drive from our place. Concerning the house swap, you would be disappointed, as we do not have a house ;-) We would have to discuss the options of a basecamp further.. @northy@taffy Well this is not our place, this is in South Tyrol, Italy. Would be great to meet you, but we are not the jamboree typ of persons, but singel/sole visitors are very welcome and I will bake a cake for every 365friend visiting!
@mona65 Oh, no problem absolutely! - 5 hours, it's how much we drive if we go to the Upper Peninsula in Michigan - a good long-weekend trip. So, I will take Italy's Südtirol being 5 hours away any time!!!!!! :) And no worries about a "house" thing - as a creature bread and raised in a tiny apartment, I still feel awkward in a house!
How wonderful to have M along with you on this exploration. He looks so small there in this amazing location, which really gives you a sense of the scale of the rock walls. Another fantastic image. :)
