Craft Group Day

Today, it rained for the first time in a long time. I've been looking forward to this kind of day for a while.

However, when I arrived at Mum and Dad's place to check on it and feed the birds, I found that Guts the Magpie didn't come when called. So, I went to look around the place to make sure he was okay and that nobody threw rubbish over the back fence again.
I was shocked to find Guts had gotten himself stuck in a steel crab pot! It was one of Dad's and I wondered how long he had been there... by the way he was pacing, it was a few days. I grabbed the pot and put it on the ground to see if I could open it, but it had been wired shut and the wire was rusted - thus making it harder to open it - and the pot itself was made from galvenised steel!
I pushed my hand inside to see if he'd allow me to grab him and pull him out carefull, but he freaked... so I called the local council and they put me onto the RSPCA who put me on hold for 10 minutes while I raced around looking for bolt cutters (I didn't find any) and so I hung up and found a pair of pliers to undo all the wire in the pot... I opened the lid of the trap/pot and it did something inside it and Guts took off out of the trap!!! He wasn't too happy I had gotten that close to him and he didn't trust me all that much after that.

I put the crab pot under the house where no birds could get to it again... especially Guts or any other magpies.... and I inspected the other steel crab pots near where I found this one, and closed up the doors on them, laid them on their backs so nothing could get inside them (as they're made differently).

I hope Guts is going okay... he's really not used to human hands and I did try to settle him, to let him know I'd never hurt him, but he freaked out every time I touched him... poor little guy.

That must have been some scary experience for him, poor guy, but at least he is ok

@digitalrn Yeah it was... I'm just glad I decided to go downstairs yesterday and look around instead of closing up the house thinking he wasn't around. Who knows how long he would have been there otherwise?
