Not only do we have tiny bees and bugs, we are a tiny country, period! I always see other photographers wherever I go to practise with my macro lens. Usually it's just one or two. Yesterday was kind of a record at the mangrove forest. There were at least 8 other photographers, all with their DSLRs, camera bags and tripods. I don't know about anyone else but I always feel small and silly when I spot another nature or macro photographer because I don't have professional equipment (that would be a Canon or Nikon DSLR) and have instead a small and super shiny Sony. Hahaha.
Anyway, seeing this bug yesterday made me happy! Because, prior to making this shot, I had only seen online photos of it. It's a tortoise beetle. The translucent shell is awesome!
It was so tiny. This tortoise beetle was not even 1cm (0.3in) across. I took a few shots before it flew away. And when I downloaded and opened the files to edit, I see that there is a super tiny bug on it! (On the front, below the black spot, close to the lower feeler.) I certainly did not see it with my naked eye when I was shooting the tortoise beetle. How insanely tiny was this bug!? 1mm!?
Another lucky shot. 8D (At this rate, my luck will run out... in an hour or so. How am I going to finish this project! 8P )
So that is tiny with tiniest! Wow and Fabulous shot; When I go the country park they are all there with their equipment but I don't bother - different strokes for different folks I say:0))
Excellent detail and really enjoy the backstory. You have the eye and the skill! It's like saying to someone who cooks - you have a really good stove! It isn't about the camera.... :-)
Like I always say : it`s not the tools that makes marvelous pic but the eyes and practice of the photographer. This pic is a great proof of it . you `ve make a great , marvelous, stunting and beautiful micro of an amazing bug.
Excellent shot! When I went to see the butterfly exhibit, there was a photographer there who had someone else to carry around a bunch of equipment while he carried the very expensive looking camera and lens. They held a big black contraption up while he took the shot, I have no idea what it was for.
I'm sure that your photos come out as great as the pros, Livia. Probably even better!! He's a cute little guy .. beautiful tortoise shell. Fantastic catch AND one does wonder how to finish the project sometimes. After all, there is another "life" out there!! :)
I know what you mean about producing your P&S when out and about. I feel people don't think I'm really serious about taking a picture. I hope that those of us who use them and post photos here can prove that there are some great captures to be had by our humble cameras! This tiny little creature is a great find, I love how a close up shot can help us see much more detail....its got to be a fave!
This picture is proof that you don't need insanely expensive equipment to take good shots. This is beautiful and well composed. It's not the camera you use, it's what you do with it.
It's amazing! I seriously don't think you'll have a problem finishing your project and carrying on beyond! You are a great photographer. Remember, it's not the equipment it's the person behind the lens ;o) Oh, and fav :oP xx
Livia, I'm now known as "that crazy lady with her camera", so I'm with you on this one!!! This is a wonderful macro, and that little bug is pretty cute (did I just say that about a bug...???) :-D
What a great capture! Nice Macro. I have read and need to remind myself also, that it is not about the equipment but that you like and are excited by your photograph. Some days are better than others.
Just goes to show you that it isnt the equipment its the person behind the lens!! you always amaze me with your perfect focus and dof ..you are an amazzing photographer and i love this little beetle!
i love it.
i have a sad story to share.
tonight on our walk i saw a wonderful big bug and was just about to tell my husband I wanted to take a picture of it and he bent over to see what i was talking about and crunched it.
so sad.
glad that did not happen to you with this one.
naww....you're not alone Livia! I don't have those professional equipments & cameras as well! Just me & my lil canon ixus. Don't worry about that! All your pics are AMAZINGLY AWESOME! =D
It is a beautiful bug - lovely that you found this for us. I like very much how you composed this picture - awesome. There is no need to doubt your ability to finish this project. And think about all the cake you can have then :-).
you took this with a little sony point and shoot camera?! the details are amazing!!!! wonderful job Livia!!! see, you dont need big fancy equipment to get a great shot!!! really kewl looking bug!!
Amazing capture! I don't like bugs as a general rule but he - or she has an amazing shell! Love the earlier comment about a buggy photobomb too! I'm not sure your luck is going to run out :D
what a cool capture! i think you do fabulously with your sony camera... but i know what you mean... i have a canon t2i and still end up feeling small besides some of the amazingly equipped photogs i run into when out shooting!
A great, big, very lucky and very grateful "THANK YOU!" to everyone. I appreciate your visits and comments. Thank you so much. I am not an amazing photographer. I'm just really lucky. And I should stop whining so much because it's annoying. Even to me.
Again, thank you! I am grateful for your kindness and encouragement!
i know what you mean. whenever i'm shooting buildings, there are a few others around with their big muscled cameras with bulky lenses and hoods with the loud clicking sound. then there's me with a puny little canon just clicking away. i like this little thingamajiggsky, it looks like an alien.
love the composition and green!...
Great 2 for 1 capture.

I laughed out loud yesterday when I saw someone cradling his 400d protectively through the crowds so as not to smash his precious toy.
Me however I swing my old Vivitar slr around like I don't care, I only cover it in severe rain and I bet it will outlive my DSLR by a long mile.
You produce great results, it is not the size of the tool it is how you wield it and you do just fine ;)
Again, thank you! I am grateful for your kindness and encouragement!
