Nothing Like Music by myautofocuslife

Nothing Like Music

American film producer Samuel Goldwyn once said, "If I look confused, it is because I am thinking." If I could borrow that quote, I'd say, "If I look miserable, it is because I am thinking." I hate thinking. My mind thinks of melancholy, tragic, morbid, unsavory, horrifically negative things all the time. The only way to stop the thinking when it gets bad is to listen to loud music, loudly. The Husband and The Kid know it, and they leave me alone when I'm listening to my loud music, loudly.

Yeah, I know how much my age is showing, going by the kind of music I listen to. And I do hate being old. 8(

This Depeche Mode song pretty much sums up my mood: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJYD8VVilIE
I like the commentary. Sad that CDs are almost "vintage" ... Nice collection!
June 15th, 2012
I love loud music too and I know everything in this stack! Looking at your shot I hear music - great. And that age thing - what can I say... Hello from someone on the same train :-).
June 15th, 2012
nice composition and loud music is great (kid getting older will make your music selection get younger again)
June 15th, 2012
Oh, some of these titles bring back memories.
And Journey, before they became Glee fodder.
Nice.
June 15th, 2012
@shanne Actually, it appears that I have inadvertently corrupted his music preferences. He doesn't like what teenagers listen to today and prefers 80s music. XD
June 15th, 2012
You've got some great stuff! My 21 year old son used to make fun of his mom's music, but lately, I find him listening to the music I like! Now let's see if I can find my Journey CD!
June 15th, 2012
Fabulous collection & shot! :)
June 15th, 2012
@myautofocuslife ah, yes, I stopped transferring mine to CDs when I found I was just adding to my daughter's collection - but my stuff was heavier rock than this - so she took me to even more so
June 15th, 2012
Ah Def Leppard! The first band I ever saw live. I knew I liked you. :)
June 15th, 2012
LOVE your music choices
June 15th, 2012
Nice,very nice!!
June 15th, 2012
I love this photo and love listening to music. Some of this is what we listen to. Not too loudly but loud enough to enjoy. Glad you have a good outlet.
June 15th, 2012
Nice selection. Love the angle.
June 15th, 2012
Don Henley....love it, I've got the same tastes.... thanks for the link of DM !
June 15th, 2012
Interesting idea and thoughts!
June 15th, 2012
Great composition and superb choice in music! :-)
June 15th, 2012
Great music!!! Hope it helps you out of the mood :)
June 15th, 2012
Jo
If I look miserable it's because I'm not smiling - I've got one of those faces!
June 15th, 2012
Lovely, I like music myself but Classical, Opera, are my thing. great shot Livia.
June 15th, 2012
@jlhopgood It's called Chronic Bitchface Syndrome. I have it too, haha. http://365project.org/myautofocuslife/365/2012-03-15
June 15th, 2012
Very cool
June 15th, 2012
Great shot - and I could listen to your Pandora settings.
June 15th, 2012
Nice shot of your collection, Livia! I like the angle, too!
June 15th, 2012
Love the composition and your music selection....I love the Tears for Fears album......very cool shot.....now off to listen to some Depeche Mode :-)
June 15th, 2012
I really like the angle of the music cases. Nice music collection.
June 15th, 2012
Love your Chronic Bitchface Syndrome diagnosis, seems familiar :)
June 15th, 2012
Good angle to show your music collection. If no one is about I love to blast out some great favourites and dance around. Its great to have music to escape to, whatever it is. Its good you can too.
June 15th, 2012
Hahaha! Nice collection, I'd hide Journey though... jk
June 15th, 2012
Nice shot - I'd never be brave enough to post my music collection. It's like a selfie of the soul!
June 15th, 2012
Love your chosen angle, music is good for the soul and loud music is very good for the soul:0)
June 15th, 2012
nice idea nice angle nice pic
June 15th, 2012
I love the sound of silent. Often I think there`s to much noise in this world.
If I did a similar pic . it will shows all my (old) records. Love the composition ( lines )and cutting of you pic.
June 15th, 2012
I see Sting is in there, top choice, but better with the POlice, great pic.
June 15th, 2012
Looks very similar to my collection ;o) xx
June 15th, 2012
very, very cool!
June 15th, 2012
Great shot Livia
June 15th, 2012
That's a great collection right there.
June 15th, 2012
nice collection
June 15th, 2012
Great, brave idea. My music taste is all over the place including some of the stuff in your collection.
June 15th, 2012
Some cool cd's you got there. Great shot.
June 15th, 2012
Outstanding composition, ....if I'm thinking, I am really in trouble....
June 15th, 2012
I do this too, and it used to be ok with my husband, but after 23 years teaching music, sometimes he wants the house to be silent just when I need music, thank god for headphones then.
June 15th, 2012
Love your selection and cropping. I must be old too. Ha ha
June 15th, 2012
Nice selection! love Def Leppard =) my hubby complains about my loud music all the time LOL tells me its a wonder im not deaf and he's not going to shout at me when we're old haha
June 15th, 2012
great pov
June 15th, 2012
There wasn't one artist there I didn't recognize... ;-p
June 16th, 2012
Nothing wrong with that selection, terrific shot
June 16th, 2012
wonderful collection of music, it soothes the soul
June 16th, 2012
Nice shot - angle is good and so is your taste in music! :)
June 16th, 2012
You must be my age :)
I worried about my otherwise sweet daughters taste in music when she was in her teens (metal) then I was told that the mean and nasty had to get out somehow, that was her way.
Play it loud! Livia :)
June 16th, 2012
Love the capture Livia.
June 16th, 2012
I must be old too - I think i had most of these albums (ashamed to admit most were on cassette tape)!
June 16th, 2012
Love your composition and taste in music!
June 16th, 2012
great composition
June 16th, 2012
TK
June 16th, 2012
Wonderful composition and I do love your taste in music ; )
June 16th, 2012
"Don't complain about growing old. It is a privilege denied to many."
Author Unknown

Nice composition and capture.
June 16th, 2012
Cool shot and song! I feel that way sometimes...wrong place, wrong time...
June 16th, 2012
Boy this is sad Livia I wish you only good thoughts and peace!! Obvious to me we are born in the same century and I corrupted my Son also beginning with Simon and Garfunkle!! I even brought him to one of their concerts!! Also Chicago!! Music is a definite good outlet for the mind and heart! SiNG your Heart OUT!!
June 16th, 2012
@marieooi And this is my take on birthdays and growing old: "Made it through another year! That means one less year to live now. Thank goodness."
June 16th, 2012
This is great. Made me smile and before I read your comments I thought. "Hmm showing her age". Well done
June 16th, 2012
Maybe I should try that. I tend to eat candy when I'm overwhelmed with the negativity.
June 16th, 2012
I love the way you can usually find music to suit your every mood. Great shot.
June 16th, 2012
Great collection. I am also showing my age.
June 16th, 2012
I love your shot and the idea of all that, great commentary!
June 16th, 2012
Awesome collection Livia, great photo too =)
June 16th, 2012
Interesting POV. There is always room to be creative.
June 16th, 2012
Fantastic photo - very striking - great idea. Like the commentary too - my mind's default position seems is similar to yours - so I identify completely with what you've said.

June 16th, 2012
heheh...you've got an artist's creative mind (well, think of it that way, it'll make you feel better). That looks like a great collection most of which I don't know except Madonna and I never listen to her songs. Have you tried Hideaki Tokunaga....perfect for miserable minds.
June 16th, 2012
@tooki Just googled him and looked at his pictures. Nice looking man! Does he sing sad love songs? (A quick glance at his wiki entry tells me he sings cover versions of female vocalists' songs.) I can't stand sad songs or sentimental love songs. I need loud or angry songs. 8D
June 16th, 2012
@myautofocuslife yes he sings slow numbers and is a pianist too. I mistook him for a woman (!) when I first heard him. I'm a slow number type and can't tolerate noisy songs....:D
June 16th, 2012
Rob
Nice collection!
June 16th, 2012
Do I spot Robert Palmer?? Fantastic collection, and like the shot and the writing
June 16th, 2012
Mel
i used to do that too, its been too long since weve had an operational stereo out that i tend to do what Caryn does now and eat crap, which tends not to improve my mood by feeling bad for eating crap! i need to get back to music. nice collection, i know about half of what you have there :) my 4 year old came home from daycare the other week singing Justin Beiber! i nearly shot her! i thought it would be a few more years before i was bombarded with that stuff }:-|
June 16th, 2012
Music transforms my life, Livia! I'm glad we think the same way! Loud is not easy but when husband is out, whacko, I'm dancing and singing an happy!
June 16th, 2012
Great collection, Livia! I couldn't live without music either! Love this!
June 16th, 2012
great angle
June 16th, 2012
Love the pov in this shot Liva. a great collection of beautiful music.
June 16th, 2012
very cool collection!
June 16th, 2012
Great collection, Livia! I love CDs & will never ever get rid of mine. I collect music from the 20s to the mid 90s---after that not much to say for today's music.
June 16th, 2012
I also love loud music at times. the first thing after turning on my computer in the morning I turn turning on the radio or some music I've got on my computer..as to age..you're as young as you feel - and if I like to listen to the 80' and I like to listen to the 50' and 60' you can figure out how old I am. besided I told all in my post in March which birfthday I celebrate.
June 16th, 2012
An interesting collection of music. Don't we all enjoy time alone with our music? Yes...CDs are going the way of dinosaurs...sad to say...just like tapes, 8-tracks and vinyl.
June 16th, 2012
Nice capture! I know what you mean about escaping into music. I do the same thing. My other half doesn't share my taste in songs, so I usually have to keep them for when I'm in the car, or home alone. I'd probably play (and sing tunelessly) to songs all the time otherwise.
June 16th, 2012
Love the simplicity and angle Livia. Great shot.
June 16th, 2012
love your photo Livia. And yes, music can be so therapeutic. I love it when I've got the house to myself and can play my old CD's really loud :)
June 16th, 2012
The Lost Boys - one of my all time fave films. Must hire that again. I know the sound track is amazing but I just can't think of a single tune right now. As a child of the 70's, I was growing up when many of the folk in your pic were at their greatest but I appreciate their sounds just as much. Maybe not Madonna. Never really been a fan. I like your new profile pic, btw.
June 16th, 2012
Love the structure and angle - simply elegant
June 16th, 2012
So wonderfully seventies eighties. Tears for fears
June 16th, 2012
Great music collections!
June 16th, 2012
oh dear... i remember ALL of those artists!!!! (and shhhhh... don't tell anyone... but i actually have a few of those songs on itunes!)...
June 16th, 2012
Great collection. Like the angle of the composition.
June 16th, 2012
Love your collection! Guess that's showing my age too :/
Loud music works for me, drowns out the demons -
June 16th, 2012
Cool shot!!
June 16th, 2012
Great shot Livia. The glimpses of Planet Livia are always "entertaining " and thought provoking. I sometimes think that if I weren't so busy that I would be bleak of mind, so I always keep myself busy! I know what you mean about music though. I have some that i listen to when I am angry with the world. In a strange coincidence, when I am particularly hacked off with the world I often listen to Blasphemous Rumours by Depeche Mode and sing it at the top of my voice. It gives me a chance to tell the God that I don't believe in where to get off.
June 16th, 2012
Great shot Livia, I really like the angle! Quite an eclectic collection you have there. Great song selection too, I like Depeche Mode's sound!
June 16th, 2012
I have almost all those! Lost Boys was a favourite - first crush on Keifer back then! ;-)
June 16th, 2012
@seanoneill Planet Livia? You make me sound like I'm a complete alien! But The Husband may agree and The Kid already thinks I'm a weird parent. XD And I know what you mean too, I'm keeping myself very busy! I'm always complaining there are not enough hours in a day for me to do everything that I want to do. And this mind, it doesn't care, it just goes on and on. I told The Kid, if the day came when it has become possible for one's conscience to be surgically removed, I'd be the first in line with the money in my hands. The only reason I'm at odds with the things my mind throws out is the fact that I have a conscience. I'd be much happier without it. (I'll probably have a significantly shorter lifespan too but, hey, I can't have my cake and eat it too, right? ;D ) The world is as beautiful a place as it is terrifying when we're not paying attention, and a lot of it has to do with people being people. I say we're doomed. 8P
June 16th, 2012
Cool shot Livia, that's quite an eclectic coleection and it's odd that you have Def Leppard and Robert Palmer next to each other as I have those two in my stack too :)
June 16th, 2012
@myautofocuslife I agree with you about the being doomed thing, but I think it will take a few hundred more years. What worries me, is a line that Billy Bragg once sang, "The world the meek inherit, what will it be worth?" "
Planet Livia" is just a way of saying that you are different....without a conscience, you'd still be different, but in different ways.
June 16th, 2012
@seanoneill A few hundred more years? You're an optimist. 8)
June 16th, 2012
@myautofocuslife Mostly I am. I guess I believe in human nature, and that one day we will realise what we are doing to our planet and each other, and do something about it to reverse the sleepwalk to apocalypse. Perhaps I've just watched too many disaster movies and there will not be a happy ending :(-
June 16th, 2012
Looks like I'm on the same train too.
:-)
June 16th, 2012
You're not old! I love your eclectic tastes.
June 17th, 2012
nice angle! that is a lot of music!
June 17th, 2012
A great, big, pre-Glee vintage, 80s-influenced, disco-flavored, unapologetically loud "THANK YOU!" to everyone for visiting!

Thank you for tolerating my age-related whining. I whine too much. I also listen to loud music too much. But these are the things I need to do to carry on breathing. Oh, and there's the coffee. Can't live without coffee. 8D

Thank you so much for your supportive and encouraging comments. The project must go on! Again, thank you very much!

June 17th, 2012
Fantastic music. Love it.
June 17th, 2012
I also listen to WRONG until the laser can't pick up the bits; 00011001110; or the speakers give up *_*
June 17th, 2012
You have great taste in music. Judging by your music selection, you're about my age. I think of life as this...do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many. Works for me!! Great pictures!!!!
June 17th, 2012
Mmmmm......I have a lot of these very same CDs........
June 18th, 2012
Great composition, love the angle!
June 18th, 2012
Great image, great music! It's like you snuck into my CD collection and took this photo! :D Just think, in another 15 or 20 years, original CDs like these will be a novelty like vinyl is today, and will probably be worth a lot of money, but something no one will want to part with! :)
June 18th, 2012
Love the angle and composition.
June 20th, 2012
Came over to catch up after your very kind fave and found this. Read all the comments and kept flicking back up to the cd labels!! This might be good for a theme at some point......a shot similar to yours containing our 'life music'.......you seem to have a popular collection judging by the remarks :-) Then I was looking at your kitty picture and saw how old you are........whoa! No wonder my cd collection seems a little different to yours............mine ranges from Tamala Mowtown, Dire Straits, Soul and then into REM and so on.... Great idea!! :-) @seanoneill and all credit to Sean for mentioning one of my all time faves....Billy Bragg!! Seen him twice and seriously tried to book him to do a private gig for my partner's 50th.......he was unavailable! LOL
June 22nd, 2012
@Cherrill Eh!? I've never mentioned how old I am! XD Two people of similar ages would have different collections of music, I think, we all have different preferences. 8)
June 22nd, 2012
@myautofocuslife LOL my mistake........I thought the number 36 on your kitty work was your age! LOL Like the Victorian girls used to embroider on their work! OOOppps no offence intended!
June 22nd, 2012
@Cherrill Haha, I wish I was 36 again! No, no, I'd go for 26! But not 16, that was a bad year, not going back there. 8)
June 22nd, 2012
Really love that shot!! Fav'!
June 25th, 2012
Great shot. Like your choices, especially great to listen to loud music while doing housework.
