American film producer Samuel Goldwyn once said, "If I look confused, it is because I am thinking." If I could borrow that quote, I'd say, "If I look miserable, it is because I am thinking." I hate thinking. My mind thinks of melancholy, tragic, morbid, unsavory, horrifically negative things all the time. The only way to stop the thinking when it gets bad is to listen to loud music, loudly. The Husband and The Kid know it, and they leave me alone when I'm listening to my loud music, loudly.
Yeah, I know how much my age is showing, going by the kind of music I listen to. And I do hate being old. 8(
I love loud music too and I know everything in this stack! Looking at your shot I hear music - great. And that age thing - what can I say... Hello from someone on the same train :-).
@shanne Actually, it appears that I have inadvertently corrupted his music preferences. He doesn't like what teenagers listen to today and prefers 80s music. XD
You've got some great stuff! My 21 year old son used to make fun of his mom's music, but lately, I find him listening to the music I like! Now let's see if I can find my Journey CD!
@myautofocuslife ah, yes, I stopped transferring mine to CDs when I found I was just adding to my daughter's collection - but my stuff was heavier rock than this - so she took me to even more so
I love this photo and love listening to music. Some of this is what we listen to. Not too loudly but loud enough to enjoy. Glad you have a good outlet.
Good angle to show your music collection. If no one is about I love to blast out some great favourites and dance around. Its great to have music to escape to, whatever it is. Its good you can too.
I love the sound of silent. Often I think there`s to much noise in this world.
If I did a similar pic . it will shows all my (old) records. Love the composition ( lines )and cutting of you pic.
I do this too, and it used to be ok with my husband, but after 23 years teaching music, sometimes he wants the house to be silent just when I need music, thank god for headphones then.
Nice selection! love Def Leppard =) my hubby complains about my loud music all the time LOL tells me its a wonder im not deaf and he's not going to shout at me when we're old haha
You must be my age :)
I worried about my otherwise sweet daughters taste in music when she was in her teens (metal) then I was told that the mean and nasty had to get out somehow, that was her way.
Play it loud! Livia :)
Boy this is sad Livia I wish you only good thoughts and peace!! Obvious to me we are born in the same century and I corrupted my Son also beginning with Simon and Garfunkle!! I even brought him to one of their concerts!! Also Chicago!! Music is a definite good outlet for the mind and heart! SiNG your Heart OUT!!
Fantastic photo - very striking - great idea. Like the commentary too - my mind's default position seems is similar to yours - so I identify completely with what you've said.
heheh...you've got an artist's creative mind (well, think of it that way, it'll make you feel better). That looks like a great collection most of which I don't know except Madonna and I never listen to her songs. Have you tried Hideaki Tokunaga....perfect for miserable minds.
@tooki Just googled him and looked at his pictures. Nice looking man! Does he sing sad love songs? (A quick glance at his wiki entry tells me he sings cover versions of female vocalists' songs.) I can't stand sad songs or sentimental love songs. I need loud or angry songs. 8D
@myautofocuslife yes he sings slow numbers and is a pianist too. I mistook him for a woman (!) when I first heard him. I'm a slow number type and can't tolerate noisy songs....:D
i used to do that too, its been too long since weve had an operational stereo out that i tend to do what Caryn does now and eat crap, which tends not to improve my mood by feeling bad for eating crap! i need to get back to music. nice collection, i know about half of what you have there :) my 4 year old came home from daycare the other week singing Justin Beiber! i nearly shot her! i thought it would be a few more years before i was bombarded with that stuff }:-|
Great collection, Livia! I love CDs & will never ever get rid of mine. I collect music from the 20s to the mid 90s---after that not much to say for today's music.
I also love loud music at times. the first thing after turning on my computer in the morning I turn turning on the radio or some music I've got on my computer..as to age..you're as young as you feel - and if I like to listen to the 80' and I like to listen to the 50' and 60' you can figure out how old I am. besided I told all in my post in March which birfthday I celebrate.
An interesting collection of music. Don't we all enjoy time alone with our music? Yes...CDs are going the way of dinosaurs...sad to say...just like tapes, 8-tracks and vinyl.
Nice capture! I know what you mean about escaping into music. I do the same thing. My other half doesn't share my taste in songs, so I usually have to keep them for when I'm in the car, or home alone. I'd probably play (and sing tunelessly) to songs all the time otherwise.
The Lost Boys - one of my all time fave films. Must hire that again. I know the sound track is amazing but I just can't think of a single tune right now. As a child of the 70's, I was growing up when many of the folk in your pic were at their greatest but I appreciate their sounds just as much. Maybe not Madonna. Never really been a fan. I like your new profile pic, btw.
Great shot Livia. The glimpses of Planet Livia are always "entertaining " and thought provoking. I sometimes think that if I weren't so busy that I would be bleak of mind, so I always keep myself busy! I know what you mean about music though. I have some that i listen to when I am angry with the world. In a strange coincidence, when I am particularly hacked off with the world I often listen to Blasphemous Rumours by Depeche Mode and sing it at the top of my voice. It gives me a chance to tell the God that I don't believe in where to get off.
@seanoneill Planet Livia? You make me sound like I'm a complete alien! But The Husband may agree and The Kid already thinks I'm a weird parent. XD And I know what you mean too, I'm keeping myself very busy! I'm always complaining there are not enough hours in a day for me to do everything that I want to do. And this mind, it doesn't care, it just goes on and on. I told The Kid, if the day came when it has become possible for one's conscience to be surgically removed, I'd be the first in line with the money in my hands. The only reason I'm at odds with the things my mind throws out is the fact that I have a conscience. I'd be much happier without it. (I'll probably have a significantly shorter lifespan too but, hey, I can't have my cake and eat it too, right? ;D ) The world is as beautiful a place as it is terrifying when we're not paying attention, and a lot of it has to do with people being people. I say we're doomed. 8P
Cool shot Livia, that's quite an eclectic coleection and it's odd that you have Def Leppard and Robert Palmer next to each other as I have those two in my stack too :)
@myautofocuslife I agree with you about the being doomed thing, but I think it will take a few hundred more years. What worries me, is a line that Billy Bragg once sang, "The world the meek inherit, what will it be worth?" "
Planet Livia" is just a way of saying that you are different....without a conscience, you'd still be different, but in different ways.
@myautofocuslife Mostly I am. I guess I believe in human nature, and that one day we will realise what we are doing to our planet and each other, and do something about it to reverse the sleepwalk to apocalypse. Perhaps I've just watched too many disaster movies and there will not be a happy ending :(-
A great, big, pre-Glee vintage, 80s-influenced, disco-flavored, unapologetically loud "THANK YOU!" to everyone for visiting!
Thank you for tolerating my age-related whining. I whine too much. I also listen to loud music too much. But these are the things I need to do to carry on breathing. Oh, and there's the coffee. Can't live without coffee. 8D
Thank you so much for your supportive and encouraging comments. The project must go on! Again, thank you very much!
You have great taste in music. Judging by your music selection, you're about my age. I think of life as this...do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many. Works for me!! Great pictures!!!!
Great image, great music! It's like you snuck into my CD collection and took this photo! :D Just think, in another 15 or 20 years, original CDs like these will be a novelty like vinyl is today, and will probably be worth a lot of money, but something no one will want to part with! :)
Came over to catch up after your very kind fave and found this. Read all the comments and kept flicking back up to the cd labels!! This might be good for a theme at some point......a shot similar to yours containing our 'life music'.......you seem to have a popular collection judging by the remarks :-) Then I was looking at your kitty picture and saw how old you are........whoa! No wonder my cd collection seems a little different to yours............mine ranges from Tamala Mowtown, Dire Straits, Soul and then into REM and so on.... Great idea!! :-) @seanoneill and all credit to Sean for mentioning one of my all time faves....Billy Bragg!! Seen him twice and seriously tried to book him to do a private gig for my partner's 50th.......he was unavailable! LOL
@Cherrill Eh!? I've never mentioned how old I am! XD Two people of similar ages would have different collections of music, I think, we all have different preferences. 8)
@myautofocuslife LOL my mistake........I thought the number 36 on your kitty work was your age! LOL Like the Victorian girls used to embroider on their work! OOOppps no offence intended!
And Journey, before they became Glee fodder.
Nice.

Nice composition and capture.
Loud music works for me, drowns out the demons -
