Identify This No. 118

This handy old gadget works perfectly. What is it ?

Previously, in ID This No. 116...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The interesting object you saw in No.116 was my frying pan. A genuine 'Le Cruset' made from cast iron, Teflon coated inside and enameled outside and boasting an apple wood handle. Possibly the most expensive frying pan on the planet. But I have to say also the best. I could not possibly afford a new one. I actually inherited this one. It is my second most favorite pan beside my wok.
I think most people got this, even scooter on the second attempt! Top marks Scooter! LOL...
Honorable mentions...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Paula Brumbe - Oh, I think I used something just like this to make raw eggs into fluffy whipped dreams of food. I will go with a pan handle. Net says:-->> Well, yes. But attached to a frying pan. Correctomundo!!! Yeeehaw!

scooter No idea, not even a guess.....
Then later...
scooter - Ok, frying pan it is! Net says:-->> Nice to know you are keeping up! LOL> you get tonights "Pan Fried Award" Yeeeeehaaaa!

Howard N - This is not fair. You know that you have an international audience yet you only show us these primitive local thingies. Prior responders say frying pan handle or the like, but would you use a wooden handled pan over an open flame? I don't know! But, maybe. Net says:-->> Come now Howard, Surely you colonial types know about open air cooking! LOL. (Tee hee).

Rick Schies - This is a handle. Net says:-->> It is, but I asked for the whole object to be named. So now you need to check the answer! LOL Another good guess down the 'pan' as they say! (OK I really am bad at puns) LOL.

Sue Wilde - Frying pan handle on cast iron pan. Very useful item that handle. Without it the frying pan becomes a dog dish. Net says:-->> LOL you get tonights biggest laugh. Loved that comment. Nice one Sue. A Laughing Dog Award! Yeeehaaa!

Alison Bailey - Cast iron frying pan handle. No, sorry, scrub that. Let's be careful here. It's a handle for a cast iron frying pan.
Alison Bailey - ON a cast iron frying pan. :-) Net says:-->> Yes it is... Very accurately put. Lots of come-back-again tries tonight people! LOL Frying pans must be very important to everyone to get right!

Mike Warren - Spindle on a ships wheel or shovel/pan handle. Net says:-->> Interesting variables. But they made me laugh and were plausible. A Doohicky award. Yaaaaaaaahhhhhheeeeee! LOL.

Carole Imes - LOL! You have the funniest gadgets. I would imagine this is something affixed to the handle of a frying pan so you don't burn your hands. Net says:-->> Glad you are amused. We aim to please. No, this is nothing affixed. It actually is the way its made. LOL. So I like eclectic things. You just noticed? ROFL>

Great fun with this one. Thanks for coming by.

Aha! An exposure meter. I remember how thrilled I was when I was first able to afford one after so many years guessing the exposure and referring to those 'helpful' tables describing how to compensate for light conditions such as brlght sun, cloudy, hazy, beach, mountains, backlight, etc., etc. Modern cameras take all the fun out of it, don't they?

The digital cameras have them all built in and the technology is such that the past does not have much to do with the present regarding light. For instance, when we were without power for six+ days with the recent hurricane it was dark at night and this type of meter would not work until the sun came up, but then I had a digital camera and would shoot RAW anyway.
So, it is a beautiful antique meter as Mr. Leotta previously described.

This is obviously an alien pocket watch. No good any more because it is now in your possession and you do not have the technology needed to make it work!
