Pretty Bleak by northy

Pretty Bleak

The background art was pretty... the expression on the woman's face suggests resignation... altho' it may just have been the heat... stifling! (and part of me is just a teeny bit tickled at having finally achieved a shot of a smoker right beside a "no smoking" sign!)

Tx so much for all the lovely comments (and favs!)on my recent photos... I really appreciate all the encouragement!
Good work. The sign/smoker is good but it's the wall that really does it for me on this. Of course it wouldn't be as powerful without the woman. Excellent.

this is fantastic - i love the composition - great eye!!!!!

@rich57 tx Richard... for me it's the wall and the woman (the cigarette and sign were the icing on the cake)... i would not have bothered if it was just the wall :)

The wall is super and a great background for a lady that is quite not! A smile on my face but not for her!
July 5th, 2012
@northy Agreed. I wouldn't have taken it without the woman either. But I might have hung around waiting for someone if she hadn't been there just to get the wall in too!

You're right, does look bleak. Great composition though. Nice job

I love it. It tells a story and it needs all the components. Nice eye.

I LOVE THIS WOMAN!! She's perfect for such a 'mural'. Great contrast of people and art!
July 5th, 2012
Another fave for me. Everything you've captured adds to the shot, and nothing is superfluous.

Yo, I had to come back and slap a FAV on this. Simply in love with the expression on her face. It's a great shot.

July 5th, 2012
lovely capture, very interesting shot!
July 5th, 2012
Love the expression on her face! Maybe she is employed to sit there to deter people from smoking by providing an example of the long term effects?!
July 5th, 2012
really cool catch, great eye!
July 5th, 2012
Love it

I really love this one because it is a lot of contrasts, forest in the city, smoking under no smoking, Sad amongst brightness. And I love that its colour ;) fav
July 5th, 2012
Yay! Colour! :)
Love the background. Her expression & body language speak volumes.
July 5th, 2012

Mira, this is wonderful. I love that colorful mural with the montone woman (who looks very deflated by the way) up against it. Touche with the no smoking sign ha ha.

July 5th, 2012
i love this photo. it has so much going on but nothing is too much! great one!

This is great! I love how the leaves are reflections in the glass of the door but also there are painted leaves in the mural. Lots to look at here ...in a good way. And she sat in the perfect place on that bench/in front of mural for composition to be good. She does look done in. Poor lady. had to laugh at no smoking sign thing...I was so daring "for me" and got one of those shots in a park back last fall. So funny. Here it is: http://365project.org/espyetta/365/2011-08-30

Street shot in colour - fantastico! Lovely irony of the smoker and the sign. The wall is beautiful and the womans expression is a great catch. Basically, there are a lot of individual things to love about this and I think they all work really well together. A fav for me!

This was one of my most favorites of your photos.
July 13th, 2012
My goodness; what a catch...! Looking at the signs and her expression; it's as if she just realized she took a stop just to have a smoke, only to find she wasn't allowed.
