I expect i still need to apologize to Magritte, but i think this may be a bit closer to his style... my get pushed challenge this week set by @janturnbull was to do colour (again) and "to create a photograph in the style of a famous painting - it could be any artist from any period, but it must be recognisably that artist's style"...
I really enjoy Magritte's take on things -- you've done a great job of creating something in his style. Your PS skills are far more advanced than mine!
@tigerdreamer hmmm ok... let's see.... started with three separate photos... the castle (a macro), the wall and the sky... processed to same clarity and white balance in LR... exported and brought into PSE...
1. started with the wall...
2. dragged the castle on top and placed where i wanted it on the left... sized as i wanted...
3. put a mask overtop the castle and erased the background around it...
4. duplicated the castle and dragged over to where i wanted the sky...
5. dragged the sky on top and rearranged the layers so the castle on the right was on top of the sky... then added a mask and erased the sky bits around the castle... (at least i think that's what i did... i wasn't sure what i needed to do at this point to make it work and had to experiment a bit)
6. brought the sky bit to the front - but only the castle-shaped bit of sky remains because everything else was erased or masked out or whatever...
7. duplicate the black castle again... resize and position on top of the sky...
8. flattened image and saved as jpg
9. brought the image in to colour efex to give it some filters to help pull all the bits together better...
(i'm assuming you know how to use masks... if not, there are youtube tutorials that will explain it better than i can ;p)
anyway, i think that's it... hope it helps! let me know if anything isn't clear and i'll try to explain better... i really don't know the right terminology for some of this...
@northy I have PSE but i'm not around for the next 2 weeks !! off for some sun and take lots of pic's :)) ......but ty anyway and i may take you up on your offer when i get back :)) .....cheers again :))
What a fascinating artist to go for - one of those that I find 'interesting' but not sure I'd say I like, if you know what I mean.
Love the different textures in this.
@humphreyhippo indeed - i do! mostly i like his treachery of images concept, and the son of man (which i expect i like more for what it stood for in the movie "thomas crown affair" than any artistic merit ;p)... but this kind of thing was easier to pull off than, say, a dali...
"This is not a rook!"
A good effort!
