gaaaaaaaaaaaah! my get pushed challenge this week set by @janturnbull was to do colour (again) and "to create a photograph in the style of a famous painting - it could be any artist from any period, but it must be recognisably that artist's style"...
so - i suck at art and i suck at colour and this was HARD! i looked thru my art book and discovered that all the paintings i liked were either monochrome, or completely surreal, or (most likely) both! i worked on a Magritte inspired image yesterday, which was an epic fail and will not see the light of day... this was tonight's effort... an epic fail in terms of channelling Magritte, but i kind of liked it in its own right...
it was meant to emulate the Rider in the Woods image (which isn't showing up on the wikipedia site as one of Magritte's so now i'm starting to wonder... but whatevs):
I do like it in it's own right -- a fascinating image. Like Magritte's, it asks us to take a second, a third look. Simple and complex at the same time.
Firstly a great link and you have captured much of the intent and subtle restraint of Magritte's work - the push was for a styling & IMHO you have met it well - I thoroughly enjoy the fact that you have also married this push to your own fascinating series - Am looking forward to more!
I'm sorry if this was too far out of your comfort zone, but it really is a good take on Magritte - it's also known as The Blank Check. Thank you for takingup the challenge!
@janturnbull no worries at all! For a bunch of reasons, not all of them art or photography related, this is a really excellent exercise for me... Ido a lot of work in change management and part of what I do is advise sr execs on leading change - it's good for me to be reminded what it feels like to be taken out of my comfort zone if I am going to expect others to deal with it :)
This shot feels like a special one to me, I really really like this! I see where the inspiration came but I think you made this one your own. The muted tones are perfect. Love how much effort you put into your art and it inspires me to get more serious too. Did I say I love this ? Fav.
