i'm not sure about the black and white processing on this one... i just don't seem to be able to do justice to this primordial tangle of roots and earth...

btw - i've been quite taken aback with the response to the beaver shot... wildlife, as most of you know, just isn't my thing... but of course i couldn't pass up that bit of canadiana in action! anyway - thank you!

@sueb47 i think that's the struggle for me... from my perspective, i already lightened them A LOT!!!!!

@northy Looking again in the larger version I can see that they are well exposed. I think it is simply the bright whiteness of the snow that makes that area look dark. You could try zooming in more on the roots so the bright snow took up a smaller part of the frame but then it would be different picture.
