A year or so ago, my son (the coach) and my granddaughter were playing together. It was fun to watch her interact with her uncle becasue they are very similar personality wise. Christopher was challenging Leigh to stay focused on his eyes, even though he was moving his hands around in order to distract her. With his eyes locked on hers, Christopher would admonish Leigh with one simple word, "Focus". After a few initial glances away, Leigh began to stay fixed on Christopher, no matter how hard he tried to distract her.
Focus is not merely paying attention to a task at hand. It is also paying attention to detail and keeping things clear and in view. When we say someone is focused, we mean they know exactly what they want to do and how to do it. There is nothing that can distract them from their goal. Christopher's exercise was designed to sharpen the focus of his players, but it was a fun game for Leigh as well. I think focus is true of photography also. When we want a picture to be in focus, or we choose a part of something to be the focus of our picture, we know what we want, and we work with the camera to accomplish it. Whether it is the details of a sunflower, or the smile of a loved one, we are fixed on bringing out the best of our subject through the instrument of our camera by the means of that one simple word, "Focus", and there is not much that can distract us from our goal.
Wow - what an interesting picture and what an interesting piece of writing!
I think this may be useful at work. My little people find focus really challenging. This is making me think of alternative ways of developing their sense of focus!
Thank you..................and I just love all the mathematical patterns I can see here. What a lovely sunflower
@sarah19 Thanks Sarah- fyi- he never poked or touched her- it was all hand movements in the area of her peripheral vision. It's because you can't completely see it, you want to look. But in a soccer game, that can mean your opponent will out manuever you- so you cannot let yourself look at those things- your eye must stay fixed on the other player. @digitalrn Thanks Rick! @stinkypete Thanks Pete! @kerristephens Thanks Kerri!
This is terrific! Love the message and the flowere has so many neat tshapes, colors, and irregularities to "distract us"..uhm...I mean to FOCuiS on! Fav!
@espyetta@httpgeffed Thank you so much MaryBeth!! Thank you Colleen! I bought this and another as a gift for a friend today. I was just about to leave and thought I should grab a shot- so glad I did!
You certainly stayed "focused" on this picture, Ann. It's beautiful and so, so clear! Nice story to go with it. Sort of a good reminder for me to stay focused on the church sermon this week!
This is amazing! I somehow missed it days ago. (we've been busy I haven't been on here much) ~ Love the focus :) love the pattern you see in the middle of the flower, love the story!~ Just terrific all around! Fav!
@sanera Thank you so much Samantha! I'm excited about the fav but also glad you like the picture. I think it is one of my favorites of my whole project so far. I'm actually spending time with my son (the coach) and family this week. I don't think I'll be able to upload from their laptop, but I can at least keep up (sort of!) with everyone's pictures and make comments. Thanks again for the fav!!!!
