I did some Christmas decorating today- my mantle, the windowsill by my kitchen sink and the side board in the dining room. These cute little cherubs landed in the kitchen. This is the times I miss my mother the most. She and I were two peas in a pod when it came to Christmas.
great pic to remind you of traditions. This time of year I miss my Dad and the magic steno books. All year long he wrote down ideas and come Christmas he knew exactly what he wanted to give us. It was the attention paid to the process that was important. When I was ten I asked for an inexpensive camera and he gave me a nice 35mm. This year Mom has passed on his old Pentax K1000 and lenses to me so I can try some film on my bird pics.
@karenann Thank you Karenann. I did arrange the angels- they weren't packed that way. But the red tissue paper was in the box. @cdford Thank you Cindy- I'm glad it makes you smile! @daveanajao Thank you Dave! @sarasdadandmom Thank you Terry- and this is just the tip of the iceberg! @dmariewms Thank you Marie. What a wonderful story! I know you will enjoy your Dad's camera. I miss my 35mm and I'm thinking of resurrecting it if I do a year 2. @digitalrn Thank you Rick!
They are very interesting - nice picture as well. Yes, Christmas brings a lot of emotions along with it. The longing for loved ones who are no longer with us, is even worse during this time. Glad you have special memories of your Mum.
@eyetoeye Thank you Maria- I so appreciate your kind words. @alia_801 Thank you Alia- some of them were gifts, others bought at craft shows. The blond one always makes me smile. My sister gave me that one and it sort of looks like her! @nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole- I did. And since we are going to have grandchildren here this year, I'm going to get a tree today and put that up too!
@bkbinthecity Thanks Bkb! I've got quite an array of angels, ranging from cute to classic. The cute ones generally end up in the kitchen because they're fun. But the artistic, classic ones usually go on the mantle with the creche. I enjoy them all- and many were gifts.
You already know how much I love angels.....these little treasures are so cute! I can relate to past Christmases with Mom and Dad. I was the only child and they were always so special. My mom and I really went all out decorating and Christmas shopping even though we were on a tight budget after the depression/war.
@cimes1 I knew you'd like these Carole! In fact I think you'd probably enjoy most of my decorations since they are predominantly angels! I have a few non-Christmassy ones out during the year, but at Christmas they're out in full force. There is a lot to be said for not having much but still making the holiday special somehow. There's too much commercial pressure now and the art of gift giving on a budget is totally lost. Thanks for your encouraging words- and I'm glad you like the angels!
like you, i miss my mother during Christmas time, not just for decorating but because she grew up poor, and on her last Christmas with us, i was able to give her her ideal Christmas 'feast' which consisted of our usual fare plus her favourite chocolate marble ice cream. your Christmas angels all look cute.
@tanyasamol Thank you Tanya! @summerfield Thank you Summerfield!
I appreciate your comments as always- and that is wonderful that your last Christmas with your mother was so special Summerfield.
@bruni Thanks Bruni- it's hard to be missing her, but at the same time, her joy of Christmas lives on in me and my sisters. So, he legacy lives in a way!
@melorac Thank you Carole- special times always make us think of special people more. I try to focus on the family I have, but she is still a huge part of my heart- and I can't help but miss her at her favorite time of the year. I have learned it's better to allow the sadness to pass rather than to try to ignore it or squelch it. And finally it helps to remember all the wonderful Christmases we shared. I hope your heart will have fond memories but also enjoy the present too.
@pandorasecho Thanks Dixie! It's hard not being able to talk or be together- some day on the other side of glory. (o:
