In March of 2011, my husband Jeff and a friend of ours who lays wooden floors bartered with one another for flooring. Jeff would tile Ty's master bathroom floor and Ty would lay a wood floor in our living and dining room. I was so excited! Jeff came home, took up the old tile in front of our wood stove and front door and put in our new tile. Ty was supposed to come the following week and complete the job. Winter led to Spring; Spring led to Summer; Summer to Fall; Fall to Winter; and finally back to Spring a year later. Once in a while Ty would call and say, "I'm coming with the wood next week." And I'd rearrange the living room, drag out all the knick knacks and pack away stuff so he'd be able to work. And then I would put it all back. Finally last week, Jeff called Ty and said, "I'm coming to get the wood!" when he had a day in between jobs. So, I took out all the knick-knacks, and packed away the small stuff, but I didn't worry about the books just yet. I've learned my lesson! But the wood is finally in the house and according to Jeff, after it acclimates, it can be installed. So... who wants to guess when it will be truly done? Not me! But I sure hope it doesn't take another year!!
@sarasdadandmom A great deal if you like ripped up carpet and unfinished floors for 15 months and counting! @httpgeffed Yes- what's showing is actually the bottom of the planks- and when it's finished it will be stained with tongue oil to a honey gold tone.
Oh that waiting must have been murder and arranging averything so he has got the room to do the job..but it has been postponed way too many times..will keep my fingers crossed for you.
@kimmistephens Thanks Kimmi! @maggiemae Thanks Maggie- Jeff will probably be a little bit faster than Ty (who meant well!) @summerfield lol Vikki- the stained glass is actually a role of "cling" plastic that you can cut to fit your window! @dmariewms Thanks Marie! @bruni The arranging and packing when nothing happens was a real bother. But it's here now and should be done in a month at least! @digitalrn Thanks Rick! @bkbinthecity Thanks Brian!
Sounds just like my house! Ripped out old carpet and still have concrete floor, haven't even purchased the wood flooring yet! Hope yours gets finished soon :-)
Lovely timber. Should be a great floor when it's down. Hope you don't have to wait too long for it to acclimatise. Sound like my husband's "doing the head work" which is a good excuse for putting off jobs. Looking forward to accepting your challenge for June.
I know what you feel like... my husband's never in any rush to get 'jobs' round the house done either. Can be so infuriating. But i am sure the result will be worth the long wait. Just hang in there !
You are very patient, Ann. I'm a bit of an OCD type and this would probably drive me up the wall ...LOL! It will look beautiful when done, looks like very good quality wood.
I will pray that your floor is put in soon! I know how you feel. Several years ago I went 2 years waiting on flooring in my house before it got done! :-/
Thank you Sally, Nicole, Alia, Margaret, Sabine, Dione, Carole, Carla, Allison, Dixie and Sharon!
I must qualify here- Hubby is not the one who held the project up for a year- the floor guy did. Hubby is the one who picked up the wood and brought it to our house. He's just as anxious as I am to get the floor in, so whether Ty gets out here to lay it or not is no longer an issue. So by the end of July (at the latest!!) it will be in one way or another- thanks to hubby!! (o:
Chances are that it will be finished in no time flat following a burst of heroic activity. As for when it starts ... well it sounds like you won't have too much longer to wait. Hope you'll post a picture when it's done!
@juleswoome Thanks Julie! @cortens Thanks Julie! Yes, actually we are. It's a blessing to have this wood and not have to buy it. We also knew that this could happen because it's a barter and not a "paying" job. So we are just extending grace! @automaticslim Thanks Automatic! Oh yes, you can count on a picture upon completion!
I had similar situation with carpet... It laid there rolled up for months. My daughter was walking and wanting out of her playpen but the floor was bare cement so she was trapped... Finally I got sick of it, and I laid the carpet down myself. And I did a great job. Too bad it caused a fight... Anyway, I love the color of the wood. I hope it gets done soon. I want to see a pic when it's finally done. It looks like it's going to be a beautiful floor.
@la_photographic thanks Laura! @prttblues thanks Bev! No arguments here thankfully and yes, I'll have a shot when all done for sure! @netkonnexion thanks Netkonnexion!
