Salt and Pepper Take Five by olivetreeann

Salt and Pepper Take Five

And now for something completely different...

Well, this did not turn out at all the way I wanted it to! It is so far from my original idea that I can't even remember how I got it to this condition! LOL I may still try to do what I'd originally set out to do, but in the meantime, I'll post it as is. If anything this version of my salt and pepper shakers demonstrates that with processing you can end up with something completely (and I do mean completely!) different from the original!

Although this picture has not turned out the way I wanted, it has given me the opportunity to wax eloquently on life. Sometimes you start out with a goal and you map out a plan as to how you will accomplish that goal, set out to go through the steps and end up with something completely different than what you set out to do, or you accomplish that goal in a manner much differently than you expected. It can be exciting or unsettling depending on your personality type. But, if you're able to accept it, life will never be boring or commonplace for you. Although I am the first to admit I am a creature of habit and I like to go through the day in an orderly fashion, it is also my humble opinion, that life should be lived with expectation and anticipation! I don't want to ever have a life that holds no new discoveries, no interesting twists and turns, no surprises. As long as my faith anchors me through the peaks and valleys, I will see what 2013 holds for me without too much fear and uncertainty. One thing I am certain of, my faith always gives me something to look forward to and the courage to take risks. This picture may not have turned out the way I wanted it to, and it may not even be that good, but it serves as a reminder that trying is better than retreating, and each day holds opportunities to do one or the other.
You said all that beautifully and I heartily agree!! I've learned to enjoy the diversions from the plan with excitement rather than anger, and now life's all excitement! Neat pic anyway!!!

i love it when you wax eloquently ~ great perspective and a great photo as well!

Ann, first of all I love your view on life and faith. Sometimes mine fail's me, so your words were encouraging. I'm not sure what you were trying to accomplish with the Salt & Pepper, except that this picture is beautiful. I love the shade of green and all the lines and texture in it. It looks like an art piece that someone painted and I bet it would sell very well. A Fav. for me, so keep experimenting!

I love people who are willing to try something. Even when it does not turn out they way you wanted at least you tried. Nicely done
January 11th, 2013
Well spoken, Ann! Courage to face all that life presents to you!

So well stated Ann, I love your sense of adventure in processing your photos. It makes me push myself farther! Well taken!

Very well said. And interesting picture but I can't find a salt or pepper shaker in there. But very pretty colors.

Perfectly said Ann and although your photo did not turn out as planned, I think it probably turned out better!

Great words! I like this photo. It is artistic.

@kerristephens Thank you Kerri!
@eniaral Thank you Laraine!
@granny7 Thank you Linda! And thank you so much for the fav! All the strength I have is not of my own doing but relying on God who is much stronger than I am!
@bkbinthecity Thanks Brian! I'm actually liking it more and more as the day goes by!
@maggiemae Thank you Maggie! I try!
@httpgeffed Thank you Colleen! I'm flattered that my "adventures in processing" are helping you to stretch your skills too.

@henrir Thanks Henri. You can see the salt shaker more than the pepper in this version because I played with the level. I also merged the same shot on top of itself about 20 times. I was hoping to get a cascading effect similar to the mirror frame, but I couldn't get them evenly spaced so it didn't really turn out as I'd hoped. But if you look closely at the upper right hand corner you should be able to make out the salt shaker a little bit.
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole! I do like how the colors turned out. Although the original had a crisp white back ground with light green accents, I ended up liking this "dirty" version a little bit better.
@daisy Thanks Kathryn!

Thank you everyone! This was a great photo to bring out the reflective side of me. I'm so glad you all responded in a positive way to my musings! I've come to like this result even though it wasn't what I'd planned and I'm even thinking I like the inconsistencies in the processing because it's turned out to be nicely organic.

Very well said Ann. I too desire to live each day with a plan, but I do enjoy a bit of spontaneity as well. Unpredictability is a part of life that keeps it exciting.

Very cool edit! It doesn't look like what it started as! Great abstract! At first I thought it might be a plant but upon further inspection, I realized it wasn't. I love the texture and the color and the effects. I know it's not what you were looking to do, but even if this is by pure accident, it really works! Love your write up as well... I hope 2013 is the best year ever for you. Well done, Ann.

@prttblues Thank you Bev! I really appreciate your friendship here! And I finally talked to my sister the other night. All is well, and probably toward Spring I'll be heading up there- so, I will look forward to meeting you then as well!
January 12th, 2013
Whoa - what happened there? Interesting outcome!
January 12th, 2013
@automaticslim hahaha- love your reaction! I wanted to make them cascade from corner to corner but just didn't get the spacing right. It went downhill from there! lol
January 13th, 2013
Cool abstract look. I love it!

@cimes1 Thank you Carole!

January 14th, 2013
@vposey Thanks Vickie! This is not at all what I'd planned for, but it turned out interesting anyway!
January 14th, 2013
i thought i had commented on this already. anyway, i like the way this turned out. if you are into fabric dying, this would make a lovely pattern, for a placemat, or a skirt or blouse. or maybe a canvass bag. who knew salt and pepper shakers can turn out into beautiful abstracts? love the essay, too. something everyone should reflect upon.
January 14th, 2013
@summerfield Thank you Vikki! It does have a canvas like feel to it.
