Buster Was Here

I have been working with "my" new camera for a few days now. I know I really need to understand more of the mechanics but I have pulled off some decent shots and I'm pleased. But it's not the kind of camera you just throw in the car and go! with. But now, I'm really feeling the limitations of my little point and shoot. Enter in my "amazing" discovery when I was cleaning out a drawer in my desk the other day. I found an envelope containing what I am assuming was all the cash gifts I received last year! I honestly don't know where it came from, but the envelope was from a birthday card. And then, I received a stipend in the mail from a church I spoke at and my goodness! It was as if Santa had come to town! It was enough- just enough to upgrade the point and shoot! Can I just say I LOVE the zoom on my new point and shoot?! I took this shot of one of Buster's discarded peanut shells from across the deck and it looks like I'm standing right next to it. The clarity is amazing too. So now I'll be honing my skills with the "big Canon" and also having fun with the "new Canon" too! And the faithful little point & shoot will most likely stay in my purse- just in case- as the new Canon is larger and doesn't fit in there as conveniently.
I love the simplicity of this one

Congratulations! I hope you have many wonderful shoots with your new camera. This is a great composition. I still carry my little P&S in my pocketbook for a just-in-case but there is a noticeable difference.

Well done, silly squirrels, don't give up

Wow -- you are awash in cameras now -- and this image is a fantastic result of whichever one you used. This is going to be fun, watching your new adventures with the two cameras.

How nice for you Ann. Nice shot as well

What a wonderful find (the envelope of cash). Is your new camera also a point and shoot, but with the option of using your own settings?

Superb composition, simplicity at its best! How wonderful to find such an envelope and be able to treat yourself! Have fun with you new 'toy'!

Lovely capture. Enjoy your new camera. I was also thrilled when I starting using my Nikon 3000 which I bought from JP.

Here I am struggling to find something to take a picture of and you take one of a peanut shell and it is fantastic! Incredibly creative.

Nice one!

Nice shot, Ann! That is one great zoom! Is your new Canon similar to the one I have? It focused perfectly on the shell. Congrats on your upgrade! :)

@stownsend Thank you Suzie! First of all- your comment made me laugh because I was just practice shooting with this and when I uploaded it, I was shocked by how good it looked and I wasn't even trying!! And secondly for the fav!

My thanks to all! I'm very excited about both cameras. One is going to stretch me (the Big Canon on loan) and the other is going to give me just a little more freedom to capture the shots I've always wanted from my point and shoot but it just wasn't capable of.

@alia_801 @prttblues As far as I could tell, this is the latest version of what you have. Bev I actually went to your shots and got the name of the camera you use because at first I was going to get the same one. But then I saw this one and it had an even better zoom capability (yours is 30x I think and this one is 50x). There was also an increase in megapixel count which will be very helpful as I start to build some sort of business from my photography. I am leaning towards calendars and stationary as there are some artist co-ops nearby where I can put them on display. I've just been playing around with it today and discovering what some of the features do and it's been so much fun. I'm hoping to find a place tomorrow evening and attempt a real moon shot. We'll see!

@olivetreeann Use the "AV" setting. Leave the settings in default. It will work. How much was it? It would love 50x zoom! But 30x and 120x digital isn't too bad.

This is really nice Ann, keep playing

@prttblues Thanks Bev! I have to look up the optimum time to see the Super Moon around here- plus think of a place where the trees won't be in the way!

@digitalrn Thanks Rick!

@prttblues Oh, and to answer your question- I shopped around on line and found a couple different prices for it- but I wanted it right away- for the moon shot. In the end I went to Best Buy and got the last one! So, I guess it is living up to some of the hype. I had called a camera store a little bit of a ways from here- but if they'd had it I would have gone to them. However they didn't and the salesman wasn't sure if they'd be getting more in. That's crazy! So, in the end I was determined just to get the camera and keep some money aside toward a tripod for Vikki's camera but the camera does not come with a case or camera card and Best Buy had a bundle package- pretty good deal: a case, card and extra battery- so I ended up adding that on. The camera was 399 and the bundle was 50. So I ended up spending everything, but in the end I was glad with what I got. Actually I think your camera does a good job and if this new one wasn't out there, I would have gotten that one. But it just so happened that I found that money and doubled what the church sent me, so it seemed like it was time! I'm still in shock that I've actually got a camera- make that two cameras- that will now let me get some of the shots I've always wanted!

So simple & effective. Nice DOF.

@eudora Thank you Diane! I was so excited to get this camera. And it continues to impress me. I just wish I could figure out the balance I'd achieved in the old one on the manual setting. So far, the camera keeps acting as if there's not enough light when I know there is! I know I probably have something not set just right. Oh well, half the fun is trying to figure it out, right?
