George is still suffering with his itchy feet and yesterday he started to chew his feet again. I have been using a steroid gel but that has run out and when I asked the vet for a repeat prescription she said no as they don’t like to use steroids for too long. I now have wipes to use when we come back from our walks or as often as I need to. Fingers crossed this helps George as he has made his feet quite sore from licking and chewing. It’s one thing after another with him poor baby!
Cute shot .. we had a dog that got itchy red feet and we discovered that it was from him walking in the wondering dew/ wondering willy weed .. so is there any of that on your walks that could be causing his problem ..
You can buy natural pet eczema treatment. A vet might have you change your dog’s diet, use a product to eliminate parasites, address anxiety issues, give your dog medication, or help you come up with another solution. So you are right to go to your vet!
Oh dear poor George. I am sure there are plenty of natural pet remedies out there but my sister used to use 50/50 organic apple cider vinegar and water mix and sprayed it on her dogs feet.
Just read the thread, sure sounds like a contact allergy to me. Apparently dogs can be allergic to all sorts of vegetation. One of my dogs was allergic to a particular kind of grass and got itchy feet.
Poor George! Usually Sophie will lick her paws if her feet are wet but not if they are dry. Maybe if you use a hairdryer on them if they are wet after a walk or going outside, he may not lick? It might be a habit and not really itchy. I hope you can find a solution, Pam!
Pam I was going to suggest exactly what Babs did - organic apple cider vinegar/water solution. I know of some folks here who use a Betadine (povidone iodine) solution and dunk the whole paw into it. It may discolour George's feet as it is a brownish yellow colour..
I hope you are able to sort something natural out for him and not have to rely on prescription medication.
