The fifth grade studies ancient Egypt but when they drew their pharaoh images, my older son's was a dead ringer for who he was at the time. Since then he has turned into a slender angular cheeked young man but in this paper bag and pastel art work I still see who he was at that brief moment.
three good things
1. good teachers who still fit in art in a curriculum more and more rigidly scripted
2. kids, especially when they are being creative
3. happy keep-sakes to get you through the rougher times by reminding you of the good
Another creative beauty. Do you know about that site where you can make a book out of childrens artwork? I saved it somewhere in my thousands of bookmarks! Just need to find it.
My older son (the artist) also did a pharaoh portrait. His art teacher had the class insert their faces in King Tut's golden burial sarcophagus. I think it's a great subject for boys and gets them interested in something they might naturally steer clear of- drawing. You have quite the artist there!
austin is quite an artist, isn't he? there are less and less dedicated teachers these days and when i do meet one, i always feel so honoured. my grade school and high school teachers were mostly awesome teachers. these days, here in north america, they just wait for the PA days, won't touch anything beyond what their job description or their collective bargaining agreement provides.
