Such a miserable day today had to resort to some in house shots, had a retry at freezing water motion using a very low tech approach, plastic bag of clear water with a small hole in it rigged above a painting tray filled with clear water, as can be seen played around with firing a flash at coloured layer backgrounds just to add something different to the image. Interesting when viewed on black
@cottiac Thank you for your comments Cottia, I'm sure you could achieve something like mine, it was a very low tech approach all produced in my garage workshop, not allowed in the utility room my wife says I always get water everywhere, just search on you tube for simple tutorials:)
@julzmaioro Thank you Julia for your lovely comments, I was pleased how this colour combination turned out and the use of flash gave the water an almost glass like appearance hence your right it does look like a marble:)
@rosiekind Thank you for your wonderful comments and Fav. Rosie, I used strips of gel film as a background in this case, Red, Blue, Yellow and Black, I fired an off camera flash directly at the background set at 1/8th full strength, hence the really bright colours reflected in the clear water:)
@quietpurplehaze Thank you for your great comments Hazel all my water splash shorts take the same form/shape just like this one, I have also produce the crown splash, what I would like to achieve is one like Rosie @rosiekind tried different heights, volume, speed all to no avail see the shape I'm after http://365project.org/rosiekind/365/2017-01-11
This was my opening screen today. What a brilliant shot. I thought you were playing with marbles. Thank you for your explanations that have helped me work out the magic of your process.
Gosh Peter that is awesome.. Love the colour changes and very slight mixing.. The multi drops (up/down) are fabulous.. everything is clear and still..
thank you for the info on how to achieve something similar.
Does @rosiekind use a trigger for her water drops? the device works everything out for you and then does it.. making shots like hers much easier than this one of your's.
@jorlam Thank you for your wonderful comments they are very much appreciated as for Rosie @rosiekind wonderful image this was achieve using the SplashArt ii kit courtesy of Sarah @pixiemac dropping around with her SplashArt ii kit, the electronic timing and trigger giving spectacular results:)
@onewing Thank you for your lovely comments and Fav Babs, I think there is more chance of me purchasing a kit than getting invited anywhere, the kits produce brilliant results but could I justify the expense, just watch this space, 'I have a cunning plan', lol:)
Holy cow, that's awesome Peter! I really appreciate that you provide the explanation as to how it's done. This one came out great - especially that cats eye marble on top!
wow...awesome capture Peter, loving the colours which remind me so much of our local football team, the West Coast Eagles - Aussie Rules football - the colours are almost spot on to theirs.
@stray_shooter Thanks Ron as a fellow engineer I know we all want to know how its done, very low tech just another low cost engineering solution, as a matter of interest the marble looking droplet was travelling vertically upwards after leaving the stem shape:)
@pixiemac Thank you for the kind offer Sarah I live near Brighouse in West Yorkshire, I'm fully mobile ( have my own set if wheels) could be tempted down South with an offer like that when the weather improves, I've looked up the SplashArt kits but can't find one with the leads to fit either my Sony A7Rii or my Sony A77ii both are different, Rosie @rosiekind :)
@winshez Thank you so much for your lovely comments Sherrill, the colours are quite by chance using different gel sheets, when visiting my niece in Shornecliffe just North of Brisbane her husband took me to watch the Sandgate Hawks Aussie rules team play now that's a proper brutal mans game, he tried his best to explain the rules but it was loston this Brit:)
Your image looks spectacular Peter! I've tried this once before and was totally unhappy with my results. You really rocked it with the set-up, colours, focus and timing of your image. Well done!
@jmack Thank you Jennifer for your lovely comments the sharpness was down to sticking a pencil in the water exactly where the water hit the surface and manually focusing until the pencil was pin sharp:)
thank you for the info on how to achieve something similar.

I love Rosie's water splash shots too. @rosiekind
To create a shot like hers you will either have to chat up Rosie and Sarah and get an invite to Sarah's house @pixiemac or invest in a SplashArt kit.
