This is Whitstable, on the north coast of Kent (south-east England). Famous for its native oysters, which are still celebrated in the annual Oyster Festival, the town and harbour have been an important centre for trade since at least Roman times. It is one of the closest sea-harbours to Canterbury, and was also used as a transhipment wharf to other destinations including London.
Fishing and oysters still remain the main trade, although much income is also derived from tourism and leisure.
I love Whitstable, it is reminiscent of Old Leigh Town near where I live. I visited with three girlfriends on a beautiful summer day last year. Good example of light/shade and contrast Peter!
@jackie8 Thanks, Jackie. Yes, it is a lovely place and there are some nice walks from here. Later in the project (when we have reliable sun) I'll have to get a shot of some of their beach huts. Amazing!
