Now, it looks simple, doesn't it? I hadn't planned this shot. As soon as I bought the ice cream, I thought - 365 (of course). By the time I cross the road to the beach the ice cream is already melting. I choose a spot on a rake of steps (amidst the sun worshippers, family groups and schoolkids). I am immediately buzzed by a determined group of flies. Around a dozen seagulls, each the size of a domestic cat, start sidling towards me as if I won't notice. By this stage the ice cream is melting down my left hand and dripping on to the ground (and my shoes!) With right hand I get the camera off my right shoulder, take the lens cap off, turn camera on, adjust manual autofocus point, ISO speed, aperture priority and aperture, and then try and take some shots. The seagulls (who have been reported to attack those with food) are now a few inches away from my right knee and the flies haven't let up. I get four shots away, then attempt all the above in reverse whilst waving the flies off and shooing the seagulls away. I was exhausted!
Oh dearie me, wiping the tears from my eyes as I type - that was a funny tale! Hope you got to enjoy it after all that photographic effort and chasing off the wildlife!
I know what you are saying. I was born and brought up there and go home once a month to visit family. I have watched it's demise over the past 30 years. It was much worse 10 years ago... the Turner centre (did you pop I there?) has been so instrumental in its re-juvenation but it still has a long way to go.
@stephanies Stephanie, no, didn't get to the Turner Centre, although you could sense that there are some additions to the town that clearly piggy-back on it.
