There was an exchange of correspondence in the paper today about the amount of blackberries people had collected this July. One had collected 38lb in one day!
Accompanying the letters was a facsimile of Richard Eurich's painting "Blackberries and Apple" from 1976. I thought I'd have a go at re-creating it.
Well, snap! I have just uploaded a shot of my grand-daughter picking blackberries and commented on how early they are this year. I like your composition. Will have to look at the painting
@lovingandsharing Thanks, Kay. This didn't take too long. I happened to have the blackberries in the fridge. About 20 minutes to set up, and about 10 minutes to process.
So true, they seem to be ripe much earlier this year, and in abundance too. I shall be making Bramble vinegar in a few days with the excess. Your usual fab focus again Peter
Interesting idea "copying" paintings. Could be a challenge. I like better this version with less texture, because in the other there is a little more noise.
@caterina Caterina, thanks. I agree with you (I personally like this one over the other). However, at the end of the session setting up, taking shots with different lighting etc, then processing, I ended up with this - a result I felt fairly comfortable with. Then I made the mistake of looking at an image of the original painting, not the copy as it appeared in the newspaper, and found it was much darker and more "gutsy". By this time I was running out of time and patience (!) but I thought at least I could apply some heavy grain in Lightroom (one click of a button) and the alternate image was the result. Thank you for your detailed comments - I appreciate them.
Grabbing a brief moment of wifi en route to visit. 38lb??? That was hard work to carry home! I don't know the original painting but I like the simplicity of this.
