This is the canal basin at Sowerby Wharf. A "basin" on the canal was provided where more room was needed, for example for transhipment (as here at Sowerby Bridge) or for a chandlery or similar. This one was provided for transhipment of goods from the wider and longer "Mersey Flat" boats that came from Manchester along the Rochdale Canal, onto smaller boats for the journey into Yorkshire along the Calder & Hebble Navigation. Now it is a leisure cruiser hire base (see boats on the left here), and general boatyard for routine daily maintenance such as sanitary disposal and water.
This has been processed in line with recent Yorkshire shots - slightly desaturated, warm-toned with higher contrast.
Many thanks for all your recent comments. All are very much appreciated.
Thanks so much Peter for sharing the info about how you have processed your beautiful canal images. Looking at this image after reading your info was very interesting - I like the combination of processes that you have used. Cheers Rob
