As you will know, or may have seen in other posts, today is Remembrance Sunday in the UK and is also celebrated in some other countries. Aside from the main ceremonies in London's Whitehall, there are smaller local services at war memorials and churches across the country. This is our local village memorial.
This from the Royal British Legion: "Starting at 11am, the service will honour the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces community, the British and Commonwealth veterans, the Allies that fought alongside us and the civilian servicemen and women involved in the two World Wars and later conflicts."
We don't celebrate Remembrance Day in Australia in the same way you do in the UK, but we do still remember and place wreaths on the cenotaph. Our day is Anzac Day (25 April)
A lovely tribute.
I have a bit of a problem. For us 11/11 is the day of independence. This holiday has a completely different character. There is now a tendency to celebrate joyfully. This day did not exist in the era of socialism. Neither independence nor the end of the war was celebrated.
Thanks for sharing
