Some others have done this, most recently Kimberley @kbalychev , but here's my take on it.

Thanks for all your recent comments!

@fannyb Fanny, yes, it's well documented. You set a long exposure, push the shutter then zoom in to the subject. It's a technique I found is surprisingly sensitive to various element,; speed of zooming, delay to commence after pushing the shutter, smoothness (is that a word?) of the zoom, whether you use a flash, whether the flash is 1st or 2nd curtain (i.e. just after the shutter or just before the aperture closes) and a host of other things I can't even think of at the minute. In other words, it is deceptively difficult, like most of the "easy" shots you see here on 365.

@peadar just tried it.......quite right not as easy as you think!! no flash I think and not too much zoom!!

I have one of these in my project as well. I think your zoom is smoother than mine! Well done.

@pachelbel Veronica, you can search "zooming" in the discussion threads, there's bound to be a very well informed exposition of the technique there. Basically, with a zoom lens ability on the camera, you set a long exposure time, then immediately the shutter is released yo zoom in (or out). It takes a bit of getting used to (see my reply to Fanny, above).
