life is good! Tom and I walked up to "Bite Your Tongue", a brand new to the neighborhood Creole/Cajun cafe, for a breakfast of beignets and cafe au lait. Simply delicious!
Beignets...a word I have never heard before!! Is that icing sugar on the top? Judith is right I don't know anywhere that sells that sort of food in this country, mind that is coming from me who doesn't travel around Britain much.
@happypat Beignets (ben-yays) are synonymous with the English “fritter”, and is the French term for a pastry made from deep-fried dough. There are usually three beignets to a serving and are piping hot from the fryer and liberally sprinkled with powdered/confectioner's sugar...they are sinfully scrumptious, Pat! :)
I'll meet you all!! No dipping sauces? My friend worked in a Creole/Cajun restaurant and made me piping hot beignets that had raspberry and chocolate dipping sauces. Sigh.
@bpaquette When you meet us here, I'll be expecting you to bring the dipping sauces, Barbara ~ that sounds like an incredibly delicious way to add a few hundred extra calories to an already astronomical count. Yum! :)
@peggysirk They sound like fresh made doughnuts actually - I have a boy who would eat a dozen and gain not an ounce of fat - sigh....I would only need to pronounce the name to add an inch.
