Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow

I've spent the morning undecorating the Christmas tree and getting it out on the patio, where it's waiting for Tom to get it out of the stand and haul it to the curb for pickup. I can't bear to do that part if I don't have to. I recently read an article that suggested leaving one ornament on the tree to initiate a practice of detachment/simplifying and giving of oneself in the New Year. I suppose it would be more significant if I had left a more meaningful ornament rather than an inexpensive filler from Target...but I figure it's just a token act to set oneself on the right path and not meant to cause painful decision making. :)

Three good things:
1. The living room will seem huge for a few days.
2. Added interval running to my walk (in the rain even ~ no excuses) this morning. I'm off to a good start with at least one resolution. :)
3. The Geek Guy is coming later this afternoon to set up my new computer. If I'm AWOL on 365 for a day or so, it's only because the new computer has Windows 8 which is new to me. Not expecting problems figuring things out ~ but, you never know... :)
Oh that's a nice idea! Nobody picks ours up - Nigel will shred it eventually and the hens will get new 'flooring'. Your tree looks fresher than ours did when we bought it! It had to go yesterday and the pile of needles was enormous - but the room does seem big now!

I read an article today that there are some nuns that collect old Christmas trees from the curb for their goats to eat! Talk about recycling!

Seriously Peggy your tree looks so fresh. I really was not into Christmas this year and we actually took down the tree on the 27th (mainly because we were going to be in and out all week). Next year I will make up for it. Good luck with your new computer and the Geek Guy

I'll be taking mine out this weekend. I don't care how old i get, it still makes me sad. I kind of like the detachment ritual. Of course, I'm always convinced I've accidentally left an ornament deep in the middle of the tree somewhere anyway...

I don't believe this . I started un -decorating the tree tonight , and decided to leave an ornament on and finish it tomorrow - never having heard of that theory before :-) Life has been wild, busy, happy and at times quite sad . been on call over Christmas, New year until the 21st Jan , so taking the strain. Been missing 365 and my own time !

I love how lifelike this picture looks. It almost seems 3D to me. Did you do some special post-processing? Our tree came down the day after Christmas! I usually take it down by New Year’s Eve, but I was having a piano delivered and needed to get it out of the way.
