My Small Space Kitchen by peggysirk

My Small Space Kitchen

The work is almost finished on our tiny urban kitchen. Still have to decide on backsplash, and have open shelving constructed on the wall between the window and back door (clock wall), and new flooring when we redo the downstairs hardwoods. But things are pretty much back to normal and I have a useable kitchen again. :)

Three good things:
1. Easter ham ordered
2. Flight booked for trip to Bermuda in August
3. Catching sight of the neighborhood owl early this morning
Why would you want it any bigger.,,,,much better things to do than be in the kitchen Peggy!
This is delightful & I love your Butlers sink. Looks all clean & streamlined with nice warm looking wood tops.
Flight to Bermuda...that is a big good thing!!!

Oooh lovely Peggy! Love the wall colour and the butler sink and the worktop and whole thing!! It occurs to me that in kitchens our two languages depart from each other and you will be talking about faucets and counters and I don't know about 'sinks'?

Looking good Peggy. So nice to have a shiny new kitchen and a shame to have to use it and make it messy. Thanks for showing us.

It is beautiful!!!!! I think I would love a wood backsplash out of the countertop material. What kind of wood is that? It has lovely variations in it. When I did my kitchen, I got Corian tops with a 4" backsplash and never did go back and put anything over that....I like the paint and it has held up well. Love your paint color! Now I am curious about the rest of your house!!!!

Swoon! That sink! Those drawer pulls, that counter top! Job well done. I'm still grumbling over my right out of the 1980's kitchen. Some day.....

@happypat You are so right, Pat. I was used to a huge kitchen in Atlanta, but this little spot has all the space I need now...and it's a snap to clean. :)

@jenrobcarr Bring a floppy hat, some sunscreen, and a camera...we'll be all set for owl watching and Bermuda beaches. :)

@geocacheking Useable IS a relief. :) Thanks, Mr. T!

@judithg My grandmother called a sink a "basin", a faucet was a "tap", and a pantry was a "cupboard"...I can roll with any terminology. :)

@wwhite13 Thanks, Wendy! Love seeing you pop up from time to time!!

@bpaquette Thanks, Barbara! The wood is unfinished oak. I love the fact that I can lightly sand away any incidents that might occur and re-oil it and it's good as new. It's so heavy that that's really the only time our contractor had help...the rest of the time he said there wasn't enough room for more than one big guy. :)

@bpaquette The rest of the house is small space living as well...thankfully lots of tall windows, glass front doors and 10 ft ceilings make it feel a little more spacious. I'll make it a point to post some photos in the future.

Yay, the new kitchen!! I love your new white cabinets and I adore your sink!!

Love it! Just the cabinets I think I'm planning. What range did you go with. Have you had that type sink before. Curious what you think about it.
March 27th, 2013
@barbsmith Barb, the range is actually my 'old' Jenn-air gas range. I love it and couldn't bear to part with it...especially when it's in good shape (and after pricing new ones). This is the first farm sink that I've had. The old one was a double stainless. I love the 'bigness' of it and the clean look. I can see an occasional inconvenience coming in to play of not having two sides...but not enough to matter.

It always fun to plan a new project and the results are lovely. I like the way the kitchen opens up to the main room. That's very important to me when entertaining guests.
