Trees in the 'Hood by peggysirk

Trees in the 'Hood

Our neighborhood is full of huge historic (100-125 year old) oaks and other very large hardwoods. Wind and ice can be disastrous when it involves old trees. The house in the inset was a victim of falling trees during high winds a few weeks ago. Fortunately, the family escaped unharmed. The house was literally pushed forward off the foundation.
Today's high winds brought out the fire department to do a check through the neighborhood of any signs of possible impending danger.

Three Good Things:
1. The Neighborhood Environment Committee, a group formed to identify and replace weak and/or ailing trees
2. Tax forms signed and delivered to accountant
3. Steaks on the grill for dinner
Wow, that is pretty scary and what a great shot with the inset to illustrate the situation. Like you, we also have a lot of old trees in the 'hood' as you've probably guessed by some of my photos. I love how they are lining the street like that.

I just love a white house with black shutters. Lovely trees - but maybe not in the fall after the leaves come down!!! Or during ice storms!! Be safe!!

@happypat Not my street, Pat...it's one block over, Although all the streets look pretty much the same with the huge oak tree borders. It's really nice in the spring and summer with a lovely shady leaf canopy.
