Tussock-Moth Caterpillar by peggysirk

Tussock-Moth Caterpillar

The urticating (stinging) hairs of this little caterpillar can puncture skin and cause a nasty case of hives and/or skin rash in individuals who are sensitive to the toxin. I gave it plenty of leeway and watched it climb up the pole of our backyard weather station. It was last seen on one of the anemometer wind cups. It got rather breezy yesterday and it might have had quite a ride.
Three Good Things:
1. Was at the tennis courts at 7:30 this morning to hit balls before it got too hot
2. The little birdhouse sitting on the back wall is one that grandbuddy Harper made me for Christmas about six years ago. I love it.
3. Cooler temps in the Memorial Day weekend forecast.
Hmm I had a phase of getting full on whole body urticaria a few years ago - I’ll be avoiding caterpillars just in case! Love the bird house!

Lots of lovely good things Peggy! Just watched our news on TV & it was talking about the cicada invasion on your east coast....I thought to myself, I’m ahead of the news this time! This looks a tricky insect too! I’m wanting a nearer look at that birdhouse!

I have a healthy fear of caterpillars since my friend got a bad case, too. Pretty to look at!
