100 Strangers : Round 2 : No. 105 : Meganne and Bill
This new football season is several weeks old now and this is my first football stranger shot of the 2017-2018 season. It is also the first time I have done a Father and daughter on my 100 strangers series.
Meet Meganne and Bill who I met at the Macron Stadium today, before Bolton Wanderers played hosts to Brentford.
Meganne and Bill were outside the stadium collecting charity donations for the Zak Vali Foundation. I asked Meganne and Bill about the charity and learned that the Foundation strives to financially support those who have lost anyone under the age of 16 to cancer, a tumour or Leukaemia who required an Oncologist. It helps pay for funeral cost when a child passes away after cancer treatment. Zak Vali died of cancer aged 15.
Meganne and Bill are both Wanderers fans, in fact Bill took Meganne to her first game at the Wanderers when she was 18 months old ! That's 18 months old. I took my daughter to watch the Wanderers when she was 2 years old !
I asked Bill what his best ever Wanderers game was and he told me it was when as a third tier club we beat Liverpool in the FA Cup at Anfield
I asked Meganne and Bill if they would move a few metres to the right so I could photograph them in front of the exit gate, as I thought that the blue gate would make a great backdrop for the photo and would work as a colour palette with the clothes Meganne and Bill were wearing.
I showed them both the pictures on the back of my camera and gave them one of my cards, so they can email for the pics. I shook their hands and Meganne said it was really nice to meet me :)
Oh and the exit gate would have seen many people streaming out of the stadium before the final whistle as Bolton lost their 5th home game of the season 3 nil. We played really awful and sit adrift at the bottom of the League with 2 points from 9 games. I am sure Meganne and Bill are as upset about the result as I am tonight :(
This picture is number 105 in my second round of my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page
They will love this father & daughter shot at the football Phil. It's a great photo & you compose your photos with care so great backgtound! Alway good to have a plain uncluttered look behind.
I once had a (cut-price) session with one of those colour stylist folks. She told me that periwinkle blue, the purplish blue here that is showing on my screen, is a colour that suits everyone. It certainly works well with these two good folk.
Love their expressions, both relaxed and natural. Nicely done.
@dulciknit interesting  how you see purplish blues Alison. My preffered editor of RAW files.... darktable... sometimes has a purple tint to canon raw files ( especially in Sunlight) . I correct it with difficulty , that usually involves adjusting the white balance. This photo needed no blue adjustments to my raw file but you see a hint of purple tint on your monitor. Colours are so difficult as the way we see them depends on monitor calibration, ambient light, the light bulbs in our rooms etc. Some people write essays on the subject 😀. Thanks for all your continued support on my photos. Really appreciated 😀
@phil_howcroft Individual perceptions especially mean that we never all see colours the same way, either.
I'm writing this shortly after my calibrating software reminded me the screen's due a reset but i've not done it yet. The screen inevitably slips towards a slight green cast in between adjustments but I still see a purplish hue, so I guess it's a perception thing in this instance.
What do you find difficult about correcting for the purple tint you sometimes get?
And in reply to your last point : you're most welcome. :-)
@dulciknit the purple tint on Canon raw blues. I suppose I get a little frustrated that it isn't there on the out of camera jpeg. ( I shoot jpeg and raw) . I have searched forums but not had much luck. I am on a geeky open source photography forum so I might post the question there. It could be that my laptop colours aren't 100 percent accurate 😀
@happypat thanks Pat, the blue exit door had a few blemishes and paint bubbles on it that I had to clone out :)
@kerristephens thank you kerri :)
