I picked these as buds from our Compassion climbing rosebush and have been surprised that they have come into full bloom in the warmth indoors.
After my dad eventually got home from his stint as a PoW, he and my mother enjoyed more than 40 years of marriage. He was devasted when she died and couldn't bear to be alone so joined an Anglo-Philippine Friendship Club. He met Frances to whom he was married for 12 years. After my dad died in 1998, Frances returned to the Philippines where she still lives just outside Manila.
We know now that she is safe and well. Watching the TV news last night about the typhoon , Ray and I decided to give a donation to the DEC and to make it more generous by adding to it our usual Christmas card spend. Now our friends and family have already received their Christmas greetings from us in an explanatory email.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
This is beautiful Hazel, would make a wonderful canvas. Fav. Lovely heartwarming story about your Dad. Pleased Frances is OK but thinking of all those poor people who weren't so fortunate.
Great idea Hazel & so personal to you...all that money sometimes wasted on sending cards to people we see every day is carzy. I have not read your continued diary from your dad yet....I saw it the other day but hadn't time but will do so as as possible. Things a bit hectic at home at the moment & we seem to be out lots.
What a lovely gesture Hazel. I did similar with the Xmas card money to an animal charity, it felt good. Glad the lady is safe and well, a terrible tragedy out there. Beautiful shot of these roses - well done x x
Beautiful photo Hazel, and a lovely idea about the Christmas card money. We are organising a fund raising event in our village next Friday night. So pleased to hear that Francis is OK.
A beautiful capture Hazel!! Good news that Francis is safe. What a great idea about the Christmas cards I think i might do the same. It really is heartbreaking to watch the news and see the suffering!! Fav!!
Hazel, this is pure splendor! An instant fav, just love how you caught how soft and delicate the rose is; just as our lives are too. A beautiful tribute.
