I'm pleased to see the swans have returned to the River Itchen in Winchester. They definitely were absent when the river was in flood but I didn't know if this was just coincidence.
My google search found:
"When the river is in flood or running very strongly swans will often leave the river and go into the fields. There is plenty of food for them there and they sometimes stay off the river for some time."

Driving through Exton recently we saw several swans and cygnets sitting in a field which was partially grass, partially flood water.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
what a great shot Hazel. you have captured the light perfectly and there is such a great contrast between the light of the swan and the dark of the water
I'm always learning something through 365!
I feel the same about swan photos - but it is a very fine example, Hazel and I apologise for being so rude.
You made me laugh anyway and I accept your apology!!!!! (I thought it was a fine example - don't post anything I'm not proud of!!!)
Thank you - it was so nice to see them in the sunshine - just one pair.
