Sly the vulture gave a great flying demo and was also very friendly with the audience. I once found him sitting right next to me on the bench. He was quite amusing too: after he'd made a few flights, he obviously thought he'd done enough and off he toddled back to his aviary. His handler hurried after him to make sure he was back in his place safely.
I admit that until then I was feeling sorry for birds in cages......
Great to see that Liberty is also now on PP - thanks for all support!
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
@quietpurplehaze endangered. ..how awful. Such amazing creatures and they take care of so many of the dead creatures here. I have taken a few shots of them and they really are fascinating.
Interesting you say that, Karen, as some shots I got of him in flight made him actually look headless with the wings obscuring his head.
Thanks for the comments. I learnt that these vultures are also endangered which could be deep trouble for all of us in the disease prevention area.
It concerns the use of certain antibiotics for cattle and sheep. When the vulture feeds on the carrion, the antibiotics are fatal to them.
I'll have to have a think about about how to take the second part of your comment, Ivan?!
I didn't expect him to find much favour!!!
