...an impromptu game in the grounds of Mottisfont Abbey. Far too energetic for me on a hot summer's afternoon! Come to think of it, sport doesn't do a lot for me although I love my swim, not competitive of course.
Strange - and good - how our likes/dislikes change through life. I was far too scared to learn to swim at school, although the cold temperature of the water in an outside pool probably had something to do with it too. We girls used to feign 'natural' obstacles for weeks on end: "Miss, I can't go swimming this week. I've got my period."
Strange too that the 'misses' didn't wise up to it.
I digress, lovely sun and not too hot yet, so time to take Jinks out. Ray is busy painting doors on the landing, having finished the hall and stairs - what a star!
Have just seen that my dahlia yesterday has made it to PP, so thank you for all your enthusiasm. I just went out to look on the label and note that it's called 'Fairy Queen' and described as 'purple/white'
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Sush a delightful scene. The school I taught at had massive playing fields and at lunch time we used to start playing rounders with 15 a side and as the kids arrived from lunch it would end up as 215 a side. Happy, sunny memories. Bravo! To Ray as well.
You sound exactly like me Hazel.......I never much cared whether I won or lost in sport ....that was when I was forced I to doing any! Used to play bowls & loved that but got nervous before a match & if I was losing I used to nearly throw in the towel!
Learnt to swim late in life but my pool closed down so never went back to it.......I do like just doing a width in the very warm pools in NZ. Could do with a friend to go with........might encourage me! Coffee after too. Love your rounders picture...I think rounders has an old fashioned appeal & perfect for a family outing in the park...you don't seem to hear much about it now....just on the beach perhaps....baseball I suppose in the US. Ray is a star in this heat.......
Yes, I am exactly like you with regards to sport! I learn to swim in my 30s because both the children could swim and Neil swam a mile aged 8. so I felt left out on holiday etc. I do love it now. But I'm no good at competitive sport.
Super statue, lavender, conifers/topiary. Lovely summer scene. For me - and it is just for me, we all see things differently, so I don't want your other Friends leaping to your defence! - the players etc. are a distraction, especially as they are moving out of picture. I would see that as a separate picture. Someone wrote a book (can't remember who) - called "Ways of Seeing"! But I'm reluctant to comment honestly on this website, people are so twitchy about their pix and those of their Friends! Take care.
Ivan, I'm not twitchy!! Funny you should say that about the people as I did (briefly) think of it as a separate pic but felt it not really interesting enough. I always welcome honest critique and would find it useful.
p.s. - I did a crop and made it just into a game of rounders but it didn't look very exciting to me! So the other shot you liked - just about half of the pic was the best half, I think!
Lovely summer scene. I got put off rounders at school when I hit the ball during a game and it hit the PE teacher square on her forehead. she went down like a skittle. Wrong place wrong time I guess.
Beautiful gardens! On the other hand, I teach teenagers, and they don't seem to notice the heat when they are playing outside; when they are inside the classroom, that's a different kettle of fish.
@quietpurplehaze The rounders players one - I'd get closer to them and make them the main subject - different kind of picture, different POV!. The statue and garden one is good from your standing point - I think!

I only watch it because the men in the house are watching - I do like Wimbledon!

Wow that sounds like a mammoth game of rounders! Happy to evoke good memories for you!

That's something I hated about hockey, always getting clobbered on the ankles. That incident sounds rather dodgy!
