Apparently you raise your arms in the air to make yourself look big but you then resist the temptation (my words) to wave them about.

I know it would be hard for me not to do that! (There have been nasty incidents involving cattle and dogs in fields, even fatalities. Luckily Jinks does not bark at cattle, only other dogs!)
You are right to be cautious Hazel...cows can be unpredictable especially at calving time or when you have a dog...I would be wary too going through a field of cows if I didn't know them & I am well used to cows! These look like beautiful water meadows!
Beautiful scene, and interesting instructions on what to do should you have a cow encounter. I wonder if it really works. I don't think I'd like to be there to find out.
