We had a trip to Winchester and, as I had my zoom lens on the camera in the hope of finding a shot of a robin in our garden, I decided to leave it on instead of changing to a more suitable lens for the city scene.
The last space in the car park was ours and at the start of the walk through the recreation ground to the city centre I heard a robin singing. Easily located and a couple of shots produced this one.
Apparently the only British bird to sing all year round and can aggressively defend its territory, the character of those robins on Christmas cards being something of a myth.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Great shot HazeI. So well captured. Fav! I guess the song is a territorial claim. Its a long time to hold ground before the nest building season. Look so cute to us, but they sure do fight each other visciously.
Thank you, David. One of those unexpected and lucky shots. And yes I understand the singing is territorial and was surprised to learn the true nature of robins!
