I love nectarines, especially white-fleshed ones. Good to eat fresh in summer; good to make into a compôte with a little orange juice and honey in winter.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Oh yes! Compote! Sometimes I think that I prefer it to the fruit itself! I love these nectarines and this very tempting shot! I snapped up some of those ridiculous 'home ripening' yellow nectarines the other day from Waitrose because they were only £1 for 6 - I knew they would never ripen and were just being sold off but I made them into compote with vanilla sugar, honey and white wine and they were delicious!! Your lovely shot has made my mouth water and I may have to go back for more now!
Shall have to try putting some vanilla and white wine in my next compôte. (I'm over the moon with my new camera and its capabilites even on Intelligent Auto!)
@quietpurplehaze I can tell your excitement through your shots!! So happy for you - its a great hobby and adds so much to everyday life and of course adds a new dimension to holidays! By the way you can get very good vanilla sugar in France in sort of plastic sachets with a screw top! Add to your shopping list for next time.
Beautiful shot. The bowl you displayed the fruit in compliments it well - beautiful bowl! You have me curious about compote now ... I will need to google it.
Just buy a punnet of 4 nectarines, cut the flesh from the stones in quite large pieces, put the pieces in an ovenproof dish with a lid together with a little orange juice plus about a teaspoon of honey and cook for approx 20-30mins on a moderate oven setting - I guess it's like stewed fruit but with the pieces kept whole (and it's nicer!) It's my lazy way of making a pudding!
